The mission of the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund (DMSF) is to unlock educational opportunities for talented Chicago-area students facing financial need. DMSF partners with Murphy Scholars, families and schools through high school and beyond by providing scholarships, academic programs and personal support so that each Scholar can reach their potential.

✨ Bold Futures Ahead ✨ Last month, we proudly welcomed 142 new Murphy Scholars into the DMSF community at the iconic Studebaker Theater in Chicago's Fine Arts Building.

Centered around the theme "Bold Futures Ahead," the evening celebrated more than a milestone; it marked the beginning of incredible journeys filled with opportunity, growth, and possibility. One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came from the words of encouragement shared by our speakers: recent Murphy graduate Ewuraesi Korankye (Francis W. Parker, Class of 2026) and Murphy Alumnus Alex Bautista (Deerfield Academy, Class of 2021). They reminded our newest Scholars that they belong in every classroom, campus, and opportunity that lies ahead. While the road to success may not always be linear, they encouraged Scholars to embrace challenges as part of their growth and to trust in their abilities. Most importantly, they emphasized that no matter what obstacles arise, they will never navigate them alone. The entire DMSF community stands ready to support, guide, and champion them throughout their journey.

We can't wait to see the impact the Class of 2030 will make. The future is bright, and their journey is just beginning. 💙

Are you a 7th grader (soon-to-be 8th grader in the fall of 2026) with big dreams and strong academic potential? The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications for the next class of Murphy Scholars!

Murphy Scholars receive:
✅ High school scholarship support at one of our 89 partner schools
✅ Programmatic support like Mentorship and Affinity groups
✅ College Counseling
✅ Leadership development
✅ Summer Opportunities
✅ A lifelong community of support

Students should apply if they:
📚 Will be an 8th grader in the fall of 2026

Big dreams, East Coast edition ✈️📚

21 Murphy Scholars from the Class of 2027 traveled east to visit Brown University, Trinity College, Connecticut College, and Yale University, exploring campuses, picturing their futures, and getting a firsthand look at college life beyond Chicago.

There’s something powerful about stepping onto a campus and thinking: “I could see myself here.”

Experiences like these help our Scholars build confidence, expand what feels possible, and make informed decisions about where they’ll thrive most. At DMSF, we’re committed to creating opportunities that open doors, spark curiosity, and remind students that they belong in every room they walk into. Through our Caddie Training recently hosted at Onwentsia Club, our Scholars are learning the game, building confidence, and preparing for their first summer out on the course.

Still thinking about the magic of our **3rd Annual Project Prom** ✨

Our juniors and seniors showed up ready to step into one of the most memorable moments of the year and this day was all about making sure they felt confident, celebrated, and fully prepared to end the year strong. 👏🏽

From dresses and suits to shoes and finishing touches, every detail came together because of an incredible community behind them. We truly can’t do this without you. A heartfelt thank you to our alumni, parents, and staff who made this day run so smoothly and to everyone who donated a dress, a pair of shoes, a suit, and more. Every single contribution makes this experience accessible and joyful for our Scholars and their families.

We’re still feeling the energy from Soirée for Scholars ✨

To everyone who joined us: thank you! The room was electric, filled with 230 passionate supporters who showed up, leaned in, and made the night truly unforgettable. A special thank you to Adriana Rivera, Murphy Alumna ’19, for sharing her powerful story and reflecting on how DMSF has supported her journey; we’re so proud of you 💙

Because of your generosity and belief in our mission, we raised over $120,000 to support Murphy Scholars and their futures 🎉

It’s your presence, your energy, and your commitment to educational opportunity that make moments like this so powerful. We’re beyond grateful to have a community like you standing beside us.
