Formed by teenagers in 1981, Anti-Cimex helped create and define the sound of Scandinavian hardcore punk, influencing generations of raw punk bands worldwide. From recording songs in a chicken coop to induction into the Swedish Music Hall of Fame, JAWBREAKER traces the band’s chaotic history through rare archival footage, intimate interviews, and a surprisingly tender, dreamlike approach to one of punk’s most brutal sounds. 🎟️🎟️🎟️ in 🔗🔝

Screening this June: A POET is a wry, deeply human portrait of failure, ego, and the strange compulsion to keep creating even when the world stops listening. By turns painfully funny and quietly devastating, the film captures the absurdity of the artistic life with remarkable tenderness. Part satire, part existential spiral, and one of the sharpest indie discoveries of the year.

Saturday, June 13 screening preceded by an introduction from Must-Watch Indies series programmer Marya E. Gates and a post-screening Q&A with RogerEbert.com Associate Editor Robert Daniels. 🎟️🎟️🎟️ in 🔗🔝

📼🐄 Our Staff Picks series gets wonderfully weird on Wednesday, June 24 with Oscar Harding’s A LIFE ON THE FARM (2022).

This bizarre, hilarious, and strangely haunting documentary uncovers the homemade VHS tapes created by eccentric English farmer Charles Carson in the 1990s — videos that play like part pastoral documentary, part accidental nightmare.

Presented with the Found Footage Festival, this special screening features Harding and Found Footage Fest co-founder Joe Pickett in person, plus a pre-show VHS presentation from Pickett himself. The feature will also screen on VHS. 🎟️ https://facets.org/programs/found-footage-presents-a-life-on-the-farm/

Béla Tarr's austere 7-hour epic SÁTÁNTANGÓ (1994) screens this Sunday, May 24th

Long before it was widely accessible in the states, FACETS championed film, becoming the first to release it on DVD in the US and helping introduce Tarr’s monumental cinema to new audiences. Its history is deeply tied to our founder, Milos Stehlik, whose passion for bold, uncompromising filmmaking shaped our programming from the beginning.

Now, in the wake of Tarr’s recent passing and in celebration of our anniversary month, we’re honored to bring this towering achievement back to the theater where it belongs. 🎟 https://facets.org/programs/satantango/

On June 12, alterotics and Optical Noise present THE FUTURE IS A F**K — six porn/art shorts featuring films by Iris Glitzer, Vex Ashley, Ryan Suites, Jazzy Boho, Pedro Lavin, plus the premiere of alterotics’ latest film, CHARACTER SYNDROME.

Then, descend into LADIES OF THE NIGHT: LES VAMPYRES + THE BLACK GLOVE, a double feature of dark sapphic eroticism from Venezuelan underground filmmaker Maria Beatty. Influenced by German Expressionism, film noir, gothic subculture, and surrealism, Beatty’s lush black-and-white films transform fe**sh and forbidden desire into something hypnotic, dreamlike, and dangerously intimate.
