Tiny set. Big mission. 📖✨

During fall training, our team members used their crafting skills to imagine our after-school program spaces. With a little stop-motion magic, we can see one student’s journey to discovering the joy of reading. Seeing it come to life reminded us why this work matters so much.

As we kick off our fall semester this week, we can’t wait to welcome students back into the HOPES space and watch them explore, learn, and grow through the power of literacy!

Here's a big HOPES welcome to our two new team members, Zaida and Bobby!🎉

Meet Zaida, our new Development Coordinator VISTA💙:
-Zaida was drawn to the mission of HOPES, as she has both directly benefited from similar organizations as a child experiencing housing insecurity herself. She has seen the positive outcomes of programs that provide students with resources regardless of other barriers that may be impacting their lives. Zaida is excited to help HOPES expand its direct impact and find new opportunities to meet the needs of our programs and the kids we serve!

Meet Bobby, our new Program Coordinator VISTA🧡:

Bobby is excited to get to know their community better through serving with HOPES and finding ways to positively impact students through engaging curriculum and enrichment programming. Bobby believes that volunteering is the most valuable way to spend your time and that being of service to your community is essential to a well-rounded life

🌟👟Marathon Monday: Runner Spotlight 👟🌟

Meet Gisselle, an inspiring powerhouse on our 2026 Chicago Marathon team who is transforming every single stride into an opportunity to build hope! Gisselle is pushing her limits on the pavement to create a lasting impact for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

This year holds an extra special place in Gisselle's heart as she takes on her very first marathon! Her connection to our mission is deeply personal; having grown up involved in a nonprofit organization herself, she knows firsthand the incredible power of community support.

With a lifelong soft spot for children, Gisselle is channeling her passion into purpose, ensuring that her fundraising directly provides children experiencing homelessness with critical literacy support, books, and academic resources.

"I really appreciate the opportunity to run for Chicago HOPES for Kids. This will also be my very first marathon, so I really want to enjoy the experience and make the most of this journey—not just for myself, but for the kids and families I’m running for. I’m excited to continue fundraising, training, and hopefully make it to the starting line knowing that I gave it my all for such an important cause."

From our on-site teams fostering lifelong relationships to fun full-team outings, we strive to create the kind of relationships that make our work stronger.

🌟👟Marathon Monday: Runner Spotlight 👟🌟

Meet Sandra, a dedicated powerhouse on our 2026 Chicago Marathon team who is transforming every single stride into an opportunity to build hope! Sandra is pushing her limits on the pavement to create a lasting impact for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Sandra is the official winner of our August Challenge! Thanks to her phenomenal dedication to reaching out, sharing her story, and rallying support, she brought in the most donations throughout the month of August. To celebrate her incredible hustle, our founder, Pat Rivera, is contributing an additional $200 donation bonus directly to her marathon fundraising page!

"Every mile, every donation, and every step forward is a reminder that this journey is about something bigger than me. I’m learning that purpose isn’t always something you find, it’s something you build, one act of kindness at a time. Diversified Financial Management Corp. has been a longtime partner in our drive, and this year, they pulled out all the stops!
