Join us in our 3rd gathering of Ghosts in the Garden. Sit around a toasty campfire under the waxing gibbous of the Harvest moon and descend into the frightening depths of our darkest imaginations.

Describe your shadows; introduce us to your ghosts. Haunt us.
Regale us in your own closest paranormal encounters, the folk-stories that kept you awake at night, or whatever hair-raising tale you can conjure (or that you found on reddit).

Snacks & warm drinks will be provided in garden

News Night will be at South Side Hackerspace again on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7p! This is a most excellent event, and we are delighted to partner with the organizers to host it for a third time!

All are welcome to come by for a fun, engaging, informal conversation with journalists about their stories and their work in our communities.

Maybe outside, hopefully a bonfire, definitely a large sandwich and drinks.

News Night! Thursday (June 5) at 7p in the backyard behind South Side Hackerspace.

News Night is a roving monthly local event that invites the public to learn about local reporting directly from reporters/editors/writers. It's a very informal, fun, live, & convivial discussion (no one on pedestals, no long talks or powerpoints, etc.) offering Chicago folk a chance to talk over news together. The idea is to emulate old pub gatherings where people would go to hear the town crier read the news aloud. Come out, hang with friends old and news, and see what it's all about!

Join South Side Hackers in our Back Yard on Sunday, September 15th (2p-8p) to enjoy our garden and hang out with friendly hacker folk! Learn more about our efforts to transform the building’s yard into an oasis for plants, pollinators, and urban wildlife.

The Hackerspace gardens have bloomed - and then some! Join us as we hunt for garden treasure among the lettuce-gone-to-seed and overgrown radishes to garnish food made on the grill(s). We’ve been experimenting with backyard pizza - so grab some shears, find some oregano, tomato, beet, kale, or mystery squash, and make a tasty garden pizza in an open fire oven! We’ll provide the grill staples, you hunt the garnish - and together we’ll celebrate a lovely summer in the garden.

Stick after the party for an outdoor movie (title TBD) at sunset!

🎵 Join Our Free Music Theory Workshop! 🎵

We're excited to host a Music Theory Workshop at South Side Hackerspace June 15th from 2-4:30 PM. Whether you joined us last time or are new to our sessions, everyone is welcome!

All you need is curiosity and a set of ears! We'll dive into sound and frequency (pitch), intervals, scales, harmony, and classical music dissection with sheet music and performances.

What an amazing day we had at the Chicago Makes! DIY Faire on May 4th! 🌟 Thank you to everyone who came out and made it such a memorable event.

We know it's been a bit since the event – we’ve been busy reminiscing and recharging after all the fun! 🔋😉

A huge thank you to Pumping Station: One & Gearhead Workspace for encouraging South Side Hackerspace to build a kart! We made some fantastic new friends and truly appreciated all the support our racing crew, "Hack City Hustlers," received on race day.

A special shoutout to Robot Civil War and Q***r Country Bandwagon for their incredible live performances 🎸, and to all the talented local artists and makers, who showcased their creations & robots!

This Saturday! Get ready Chicago Makes! DIY Faire. An awesome ✨free✨ family-friendly fun event featuring DIY electric kart races and robot battles 🏎️ Join us on May 4th from 10am to 6pm at Guaranteed Rate Field, Lot C.

🤖 Watch homemade robots battling it out in the combot robotics arena, and cheer on the racers in DIY electric karts zooming around the track.
🎸 Enjoy live performances by local bands Robot Civil War and Q***r Country Bandwagon
🎨 Explore booths from local artists and makers and indulge in tasty local eats
