What does it mean to build good character? That was the focus of "Your Character Is Your Destiny," a recent workshop for the boys at MSV, led by Kevin McGhee (Coach K), MSV's Senior Director of Staff Relations and Dream Manager.

Boys talked through real scenarios, practiced making values-driven decisions, and left with a reminder: their thoughts and actions shape their own path forward.

This is what character development looks like at MSV, creating space for boys to reflect, grow, and lead.

There's a new way for our School-Age kids to fall in love with reading. Our traveling library brings books and educational resources right to where youth learn and play in the School-Age Department. With their very own library cards, kids can explore stories and age-appropriate materials all day long, building literacy skills and imagination one page at a time. It's a small addition with a big impact, because every child deserves the chance to discover a story that's just for them.

Stop, drop, and roll. Then climb inside a real fire truck. That's how it went down this week for youth in our School-Age Program at the East Garfield Park Marillac Social Center.

The Chicago Fire Department visited for a hands-on fire safety experience led by Officer LaTina Hill, who walked our youth through the essentials: when to call 911, how to check a door for heat before opening it, why every family should map out two exits from each room, and why pets belong in the emergency plan too.

Then came the fun part: exploring a fire truck, testing a vintage water extinguisher, and going home with firefighter hats and coloring books.

We're grateful to Officer Hill, the Chicago Fire Dept. command staff, and everyone who made this visit possible. Partnerships like this do double duty. They equip kids with knowledge that can protect their families, and they build trust between our youth and the public servants who show up for our neighborhoods every day.

Our Early Childhood Education students celebrated their Moving Up Ceremony last week, marking the next step in their learning journey with the families, teachers, and community who've walked alongside them.

For a day, East Garfield Park became a place to build relationships, share experiences, and connect with the people and resources that help our community thrive.
