On Sunday, October 11, Chicago will welcome participants and spectators from around the world for the 48th running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, with the course traveling through 29 vibrant neighborhoods across the city. As the Chicago Marathon makes its way through your neighborhood, we’re reaching out with information about street closures, parking restrictions and other neighborhood impacts to help you prepare and share important race-day information with your community.

NOTE: This year's Bank of America Chicago Marathon course has changed between miles 1 and 2 in the Loop due to construction at State St. and Lake St:
2025 Chicago Marathon course: West on Grand Ave., south on State St., west on Jackson Blvd.
2026 Chicago Marathon course: West on Grand Ave., south on Dearborn St., west on Jackson Blvd.

In coordination with the City of Chicago, Clark Street will operate as a two-way street between Lake Street and Adams Street on Sunday, October 11 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This temporary change will help drivers exit this area of the Loop when the Bank of America Chicago Marathon street closures are in effect in this area. Drivers will be directed north on Clark Street and east on Lake Street to Garvey Court where they can access lower Wacker Drive. Normal traffic patterns on Clark Street will resume once marathon-related closures are lifted.

Sunday, October 11: Bank of America Chicago Marathon

CTA Green and Orange Line Service Modifications Update:

To facilitate essential infrastructure upgrades at the 17th Junction, service cuts were implemented on the Green and Orange Lines from early Saturday morning through early Sunday morning, October 3rd and 4th. This weekend window represented the only viable timeframe to complete work of this scale while minimizing the broader impact on weekday commuters. During this period, the CTA Power & Way team performed various critical repairs, and the CTA Structure team successfully finalized their scheduled scope of work.

While the CTA understands that these disruptions pose an inconvenience to riders, conducting major improvements during these lower-ridership weekend hours is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the transit system.

Please be advised that the second phase of this track and signal work is currently slated for Saturday, November 7, 2026. This will require another service cut on both the Green and Orange Lines. CTA will continue to share operational updates and alternative transit options as that date approaches.

Generator Testing - October 26th and 27th at 350 E. Cermak Rd.:

Please be advised that generator testing will be performed at Digital Realty 350 E. Cermak on October 26th and October 27th between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.

Please note that the test is subject to change or cancellation if the AQI requirements are not met. The test is being conducted for load testing purposes. No impact to operations is expected. Any significant changes or issues will be communicated to residents immediately.

Chicago Fire Matches - October 10th and 14th at Soldier Field

There is scheduled Chicago Fire matches at Soldier Field. On Saturday, October 10th at 1:30PM the Chicago Fire plays New York City and on Wednesday, October 14th at 7:30OM the Chicago Fire plays Philadelphia. There will be no pyrotechnics during the events.

Columbus Day Holiday Refuse and Recycling Schedule:

Please note that there will be changes to the refuse and recycling schedule due to the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 12th.

There will be no refuse collection on Monday, October 12, 2026. All city- collected refuse will be service Tuesday through Friday. Residents should ensure all black refuse carts are accessible throughout the week of collection, not solely on their regular day of collection.

Additionally, residents should be advised of potential changes to blue cart recycling collection based on their service provider. LRS (Service Areas 1,3,5 and 6) will collect Recycling services as scheduled Monday through Friday.

Revised Soldier Field Bear’s Games and Concert Transportation Restrictions:

The Office of Emergency Management and Communications, in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department, is sharing the map below informing the public of traffic regulations for all Chicago Bears games and concerts at Soldier Field.

When traveling near Soldier Field on event days, please adhere to all posted signs and regulations, and follow the instructions of on-site traffic control aides and CPD officers. Traffic management directives are subject to change.
