Jeweled Tiffany Window Returns to SSecond Presbyterian Church of Chicago
The renowned, 133-year-old Jeweled window designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany, will be reinstalled at 2nd Presbyterian Church (1936 S. Michigan Ave.) after 14 months of conservation work by acclaimed artisans in a $750,000 effort. This project’s investment was funded by more than 200 individual donors and family foundations through a three-year campaign led by Friends of Historic Second Church. Friends is a non-profit organization separate from the church founded in 2006 to restore, preserve and share the art and architecture of Historic Second Church.

Tiffany’s Jeweled window is one of nine in the church designed by the firm of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The dazzling polychrome window contains thousands of pieces of glass and stands more than 16 feet high and is 8½ feet wide. It is composed of more than 12,000 pieces of glass, with more than 1,000 glass jewels capturing daylight with the brilliance of a rainbow.

One Central developer Bob Dunn is exploring a role in the long-stalled Michael Reese megaproject, a move that could link two of the most ambitious — and troubled — developments on Chicago’s south lakefront.

The behind-the-scenes talks come as Michael Reese developers face a looming city deadline to restructure infrastructure plans for the 49-acre former hospital site just south of McCormick Place — and as Springfield lawmakers debate new incentives aimed at reviving massive megaprojects across Chicago.

The jockeying also highlights Dunn’s persistent efforts to control large swaths of the Near South Side while expanding the scope and impact of his modified One Central site, which sits just west of Soldier Field.

The talks are unfolding as Michael Reese developers face a June 15 deadline to present the city with a revamped infrastructure plan or risk having their current agreement terminated and the project sent back to the drawing board.
