Last week, our Explorers walked the shores of Traverse City, rode through Mackinac Island, and experienced places that many of them never knew they had access to.

Our annual Traverse City trip is more than a trip. It's really about possibility. Breaking cycles, challenging limits, and reminding our youth that they belong everywhere.

We don’t take this opportunity for granted. Shouts to Kim Gribi for hosting us for 9 years! Thank you to every person who has donated, shown up, and invested in our mission. You are helping create memories that will last a lifetime and confidence that will shape a future.

Change doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because a community decides our young people are worth investing in. Be part of what’s next. https://www.formyblock.org/downtownday

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.

Big thank you to Ancestry for highlighting my pops and our Nigerian ancestry. Learning more about where we come from only deepens my appreciation for the man who raised me and the people who came before us.

My pops played a major role in shaping my activism, my love for community, and the work we do every day through My Block, My Hood, My City.

Please keep supporting the work, because this mission is bigger than one person. It’s about honoring our ancestors, showing up for our neighborhoods, and building something our children can be proud of.

Happy Father’s Day, Pops. Love you.

Freedom can’t just live on paper. Juneteenth reminds us that people in Galveston, Texas were free for more than two years before anybody told them. Free on paper, but not free in practice.
That part always sticks with me.

This morning wasn’t just about remembering history. It was about honoring our ancestors through service. Every fan and case of water we delivered was a reminder to our elders: we see you, we appreciate you, and you are not forgotten.

Happy Juneteenth! ❤️🖤💚

On Juneteenth, we remember that freedom didn't reach everyone at once, some folks didn't even know they were free until somebody told them. Today, we know we're free, but that freedom means the most when we use it to uplift others.

So this Juneteenth, don't wait, be the person who shows up. Come volunteer with us at My Block, My Hood, My City, and help build the freedom we all deserve.

Our youth have been learning practical and justice-centered research, data, AI, and technology skills with Black Researchers Collective for the past three months.

Yesterday, a few of our youth got the opportunity to present their research project about teen safety at the Chicago Mayor's Office! Our youth were talking directly to City Hall. Using their voices and findings to discuss teen trends and third spaces with our city officials.

Exposure creates leaders. Opportunities like yesterday give them the microphone. Our youth aren't waiting for change. They're helping create it!

Downtown belongs to everybody. To kids from Austin. Englewood. Every single neighborhood in the city.

It’s the last day of school, and kids need something to do over the summer. We cannot take all the resources out of these kids’ communities, take the mental health facilities out of communities, take the basketball hoops down then invest that money in another space and get mad at the kids for showing up.

Downtown Day helps 1,000+ kids safely explore downtown with their chaperones. To truly feel like they belong in our public spaces. To take ownership of and pride in the city they call home.

To make the experience happen, we need your help. We’re raising $250K to help cover essential costs. Help create a day full of awesome memories. Sign up a young person, become a sponsor, or donate to the cause on our website, formyblock.org/downtownday.
