Per Don H (Radio Wowsville, Sun, 11pm to 1am): "For decades, Brent Hosier has been preserving Virginia's hidden popular music past, curating and re-issuing dozens of lo-fi songs that once languished on forgotten, small-press 45s from here, there and god-knows-where. He's compiled three different volumes of 'Ol' Virginia Soul,' taking a look at African-American R&B, funk and sweet soul from the early '60's to mid-70s, and is now releasing the fifth volume in his 'Aliens, Psychos and Wild Things' series, which explores the groovy world of late '60's garage rock and psychedelia, mostly from Virginia performers. 'Aliens, Psychos and Wild Things Vol. V' is due for release [today] on vinyl and streaming (on Bandcamp). Most of this various artists collection features artists hailing from Virginia — like The Barracudas (Richmond), The Changing Tymes (Gate City) and The Hampton Sit-Ins (Norfolk) — but also performers from California (Rise, Mid-City Shadows) and Texas (Thursday's Children), and intriguing mystery bands from (the archivist thinks) Michigan and New York. 'What's exciting to me is that none of this was ever released,' Hosier says. 'It's all from acetates and tapes that I've found. I've been holding some of these tracks for decades.'"
