Our Benefactors Society Board recently gathered at the Virginia Guesthouse for its annual fall meeting. Board members connected with University leadership, explored Arts & Sciences priorities, and went back to class with physics professor Chris Neu's legendary "How Things Work" course.

The day ended with a reception celebrating our Benefactors, featuring remarks from Fotini Kondyli, Associate Professor or Art & Archaeology and Director of the Engagements Program, and a performance by the Virginia Belles.

We're grateful for our Benefactors Society Board's partnership and commitment to advancing the mission of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

The University of Virginia's Nau Civil War Center launched 𝙇𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙢𝙚, a new digital history project, on Thursday, Sept. 17. Built around the John L. Nau III Civil War History Collection, which Nau donated to UVA in 2019, the site features searchable transcriptions of 13,500 letters and diaries from the Civil War era, along with 4,200 original biographies and a series of interactive maps, capturing the stories of the "ordinary" people--Union and Confederate, soldiers and civilians, men and women--who experienced America's deadliest conflict.

A grant from the UVA Arts & Sciences Seed and Planning Grants Program helped support a three-week research collaboration in Angola, where UVA doctoral students partnered with local institutions and researchers to explore solutions for mitigating the spread of malaria.
