“Wisdom Beyond our Immediate Horizon”

Every generation meets a moment that feels like the edge of everything. We’re facing the uncertainty of unchecked technology, rising living costs, war, and the unease of a world moving faster than human wisdom can guide it. It is easy to believe our crisis is entirely without precedent—and in some ways, it is. But every era has faced its own defining “firsts,” navigating seasons of disruption and uncertainty.

The people before us walked through theirs, and what they learned lives on in the elders among us.

In this AGW gathering, elders and wisdom keepers from different cultures and traditions speak to these questions. They share what anchors the personal spirit, what holds communities through seasons of change, and how to remain in (or return to) right relationship along the way.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗚𝗪
The Assembly of Generational Wisdom (AGW) is a living network of elders, wisdom keepers, spiritual mentors and conscious leaders. Their distinct knowledge systems, wisdom of lived experience, and the teachings they carry rebuild and support correct relationship with Earth, serving one and all through awakening collective remembering, conscious embodiment, and intentional action.

How did an ancient Celtic festival of fire and harvest 🔥🌾 evolve into Halloween today?

It took two thousand years of reinvention: Church calendar politics absorbing pagan rites, famine-era immigrants swapping hollowed turnips for native pumpkins, and a wave of 1930s city vandalism that finally compelled adults to buy peace with sugar.

The sacred embers may not be the main ritual anymore, but once a year, we are still exploring our mortality, the spirit world, and facing the night together 🖤

The incredible geometry of { frozen water } shown here with ice crystals and snowflakes.

In liquid water, molecules are in constant, chaotic motion, continually breaking and reforming bonds with no fixed pattern.

As cold settles in, they slow and lock into a repeating lattice with defined angles. To begin freezing, water requires an anchor, like a speck of dust in the sky, or minerals, plants, and rough surfaces in lakes. The first water molecules connect to these anchors to form a seed crystal. A chain reaction then unfolds with nearby molecules connecting as well, growing the crystal structure.

This transition is what turns fluid motion into intricate symmetry, until warmth returns it to liquid again.

We are interconnected and interdependent 🖤

John Seed is a legendary force in global nature conservation and a prominent figure in the deep ecology movement. Since the first Australian rainforest blockades in 1979, he has been protecting nature for 50+ years.

Realizing political victories for forests weren’t enough, John co-created the Council of All Beings with Joanna Macy—communal rituals inviting us to step beyond human identity and speak for other life forms. Alongside Arne Næss and Pat Fleming, they co-authored Thinking Like a Mountain to help us find our place in the web of life.

In today’s podcast episode, John speaks on the philosophy and practice of deep ecology, the intelligence of our planet, and explains why—after nearly 50 years of blockades—he is still putting his body on the line for our Nature.
