Our friends at Golden Retriever Rescue Club of Charlotte have asked us to share the word about Milo, a sweet Pyr mix in their care who deserves a home. Let's help them find Milo's Pyrfect match!

About Milo: He is a loyal, affectionate, and wonderfully quirky young boy who will absolutely steal your heart once he knows you’re his person.

Milo is playful, curious, and smart. He loves squeaky toys, will happily toss them in the air and catch them himself, and enjoys games of fetch and tug-of-war. Daily walks are one of his favorite things — especially trips to the greenway — and he’ll excitedly race down the stairs to wait by the car when he knows an adventure is coming. After a good 30-minute walk, he’s content to relax and soak up affection.

In the home, Milo is fully housebroken and does well with free roam. He’s learning his manners and already knows “sit,” is working on “stay,” often comes when called, and understands “go do your business.” He walks beautifully on leash and rides well in the car, settling in quickly for the drive. He also does fine in a crate, barking briefly before settling when he can see people or outside.

Milo is deeply devoted to his people. He loves pets, floor-time cuddles, and will literally climb into your lap to rest his head on your shoulder. At night, he sleeps on the floor in the bedroom and occasionally gets up to “patrol,” making sure his family is safe — classic Great Pyrenees behavior. Watching him prance around the yard on patrol is truly something special.

Because of his past and his strong guardian instincts, Milo needs a calm, structured home. He is protective of his space and can become reactive when unfamiliar people enter the home or yard, especially when the doorbell rings. Slow introductions are important, and he will do best with experienced dog owners who understand guardian breeds and are committed to continued training. A large, securely fenced yard is a must so he can roam and patrol to his heart’s content.

Milo would thrive with older kids or adults only, and in a home with limited foot traffic. He may be able to live with another dog — possibly a smaller, calm dog — but introductions must be slow and managed. His experience with cats and young children is limited, so caution is advised.

Despite these needs, Milo is an incredibly sweet, loving soul once trust is established. He’s brave, attentive, playful, and deeply bonded to his people. For the right family — patient, experienced, and ready to earn his trust — Milo will be an unmatched companion and protector.

❄️ Keep Your Pets Safe This Winter!

Exposure to dry, cold air and freezing precipitation can lead to more than just chapped paws—it can be life-threatening. Here are some tips to keep your furry family members safe:

1. Protect the Paws: Before heading out, massage petroleum jelly or paw wax into paw pads or use booties. Chemicals from ice-melt can be toxic if licked off. After walks, wash and dry their feet and belly immediately.

2. The "Winter Coat" Rule: Don't shave your dog's fur short in the winter! Short-haired pups should wear a sweater or coat that covers the belly.

3. Safety on Leash: Never let your dog off-leash in snow or ice. They can easily lose their scent and get lost. Never use retractable leashes. Ensure their ID tags are up to date.

4. Watch for Antifreeze: Antifreeze is lethal. Clean up any spills immediately and store chemicals out of reach.

5. Keep outdoor walks short in the extreme cold. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. 🐾

Stay warm and stay safe!
