Mecklenburg Chapter will be supporting Wreaths Across America for our 6th consecutive year at Gethsemane Cemetery. As part of this moving December ceremony, we lay wreaths on the 400+ Veteran graves. We say the name of each Veteran out loud to ensure they live on in our hearts and memories. They are never forgotten.

We were honored to attend the Society of Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge's grave marking for Colonel Thomas Polk in Settler's Cemetery Uptown!

Also featured in the April Our State edition - how the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence came to be featured on the North Carolina State Flag!

Though its complete history has been lost to time, a document drafted in Charlotte, NC, is believed to be colonies’ first written declaration of independence.

The Charlotte Museum of History has selected the NCSDAR District III as the recipient of the 2026 Keystone Award. This distinction will be presented at the annual Charlotte GEM Preservation Awards, scheduled for Thursday, May 14th, from 6 pm to 9 pm.

The Keystone Award is conferred annually to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the preservation of local history and heritage. Key aspects include:
· Annual recognition for substantial impacts in historical preservation.
· Acknowledgment of achievements in education, advocacy, and community engagement related to local history.
