When you ban screens as a consequence, it can feel like the quickest way to 'make the lesson stick'.

But for many young people (especially ND children), screens are a regulating tool — so removing them often ramps up overwhelm rather than reducing the behaviour.

Today’s post looks at why screen bans tend to backfire and what actually supports learning and regulation instead.

Check an eye out for our post on natural and logical consequences, it will help to explain why consequences that don’t match the behaviour rarely lead to meaningful change.

This week, some of The Family Connection parent educators attended the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative - OPEC Parent Educator Conference at Oregon State University, joining nearly 400 professionals from across Oregon who work to support children and families. Here, is some of our team pictured on the OSU campus with Benny the Beaver!

Together, we gathered fresh ideas, strengthened our skills, and learned practical tools to better serve the families in our community.

Why does this matter to you? Because when we keep learning, our classes, workshops, and supports become even stronger, more relevant, and more helpful for real everyday parenting challenges. We’re bringing new knowledge back home to Jackson and Josephine County families.

We’re grateful to OPEC for bringing together so many people who care deeply about Oregon families and for creating a space to learn, connect, and grow.

We can’t wait to share what we’re bringing back with our community. Strong families deserve support that keeps growing, too.
