Interfaith Outreach of Carmel (IOC) is an organization of faith communities dedicated to extending a helping hand of service and reducing homelessness within Monterey County emphasizing grants to agencies that provide housing. Since 2010, we have granted over $825,555 to agencies providing housing services, thanks to our dedicated community and the Joining Hands Benefit Shop. Friday Facts: Did you know that 2,436 people were identified as experiencing homelessness in Monterey County during the most recent Point-in-Time Count?

Of those counted, 77% were unsheltered, meaning they were living outdoors or in places not intended for human habitation.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, we believe facts like these are important because behind every number is a person, a family and a story.

Through grants and partnerships with local organizations, IOC supports programs working to provide housing solutions and critical services for people experiencing homelessness in Monterey County.

Hunger isn’t always easy to see. For a child, not having consistent access to nutritious food can affect health, development, learning and overall well-being.

Friday Facts: World Food Day

Did you know the world produces enough food to nourish everyone, yet 645 million people still face hunger and 2.69 billion cannot afford a healthy diet?

World Food Day, observed each year on Oct. 16, is a reminder that access to nutritious food is essential to the health, stability and dignity of every person.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, we know that food insecurity and housing insecurity often go hand in hand. Supporting our neighbors means helping address the basic needs that allow individuals and families to move toward greater stability.

Today, we recognize the organizations, volunteers and community members working to make sure fewer people have to wonder where their next meal will come from.

Friday Facts: Did you know that something as simple as transportation can be a major barrier to accessing essential services in Monterey County?

For residents in some rural areas, limited public transportation can make it difficult to reach medical appointments, employment, schools and other important community resources. Monterey County has specifically identified transportation as an area of need for low-income and underserved communities.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, we know that helping our neighbors often means looking beyond one immediate need. Access to transportation, health care and other essential services can all play a role in helping individuals and families build greater stability.
