Happy Father’s Day from Interfaith Outreach of Carmel 💙

Today, we honor the fathers, grandfathers, father figures, and caregivers who work tirelessly to provide love, support, and stability for their families.

But for too many fathers in Monterey County, the challenge of homelessness stands in the way of that dream. At IOC, we are committed to helping families stay together and thrive by funding programs that offer housing solutions, resources, and hope.

This Father’s Day, let’s celebrate by standing with those working to build a better future—one filled with security, dignity, and home.

Join us in making that future possible.

Friday Facts | Financial instability—including job loss, eviction, and rising living costs—was the leading cause of homelessness in Monterey County last year, impacting 61% of those surveyed.

Housing insecurity is often the result of broader economic pressures. When wages fall short, costs rise, or unexpected events occur, many individuals and families are left without the safety nets needed to remain housed.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, the focus is on long-term, sustainable solutions that address these root causes—connecting people to resources, support systems, and pathways toward stability.

There are meaningful ways to be part of the solution:
– Support affordable housing initiatives
– Advocate for fair wages and tenant protections
– Donate or volunteer with organizations providing direct services
– Help raise awareness by continuing the conversation

Creating lasting change requires both awareness and action—working together to ensure everyone has the opportunity for stability.

Friday Facts | 17% of Monterey County’s unhoused population identifies as LGBTQ+.

This statistic underscores the need for support systems that are not only accessible, but inclusive and affirming. Many LGBTQ+ individuals experience added barriers such as discrimination, family rejection, and limited access to safe and stable housing.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, the commitment is clear: everyone deserves dignity, safety, and a sense of belonging. Effective solutions begin with understanding these unique challenges and responding with care, respect, and intention.

There are ways to help move this work forward:
– Support organizations that provide inclusive housing and services
– Advocate for policies that protect LGBTQ+ individuals
– Contribute to local programs focused on outreach and stability
– Help raise awareness by sharing this message

Building a stronger community means ensuring no one is left without support.

Friday Facts | 81% of individuals experiencing homelessness in Monterey County were living locally before they lost their housing.

This is not an abstract issue—it reflects the lives of people who were once securely part of this community. Homelessness here is not a distant problem; it is a local reality that requires thoughtful, local response.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, the focus remains on supporting individuals and families within our own community—providing access to resources, stability, and a path forward.

There are meaningful ways to be part of the solution:
– Support organizations working directly on housing stability
– Contribute to programs that provide critical services
– Volunteer your time where it can make a difference
– Help shift the conversation toward understanding and solutions

Progress begins with awareness, but it depends on action.

Friday Facts | Shelter Is Just the Start

More than three-quarters of our unhoused neighbors are still sleeping in vehicles, on sidewalks, in encampments, or in unsafe conditions each night.

While shelters provide a crucial first step toward stability and safety, they are not the solution—they’re part of a larger journey.

What’s needed?
➡️ Long-term housing solutions
➡️ Mental health services
➡️ Job and life skills support
➡️ Community compassion

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel (IOC), we believe everyone deserves a place to call home. Together, through partnerships, advocacy, and local support, we can build a future without homelessness in Monterey County.

Friday Facts | Inclusion is Essential

For many LGBTQ+ individuals, especially youth, coming out can result in the loss of housing, family support, or employment. These compounded challenges often lead to cycles of instability and trauma that are difficult to overcome without compassionate, tailored support.

At Interfaith Outreach of Carmel (IOC), housing solutions are grounded in dignity, respect, and belonging—for everyone, regardless of identity.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.

Creating a more inclusive community means ensuring no one falls through the cracks.
