Thank you to all of our supporters! As we have recently shared, Friends of the Sea Otter will be transferring our assets and closing operations. Our work will continue under the national organization, Defenders of Wildlife. After 50 years of fighting for the full recovery of the sea otter, Friends of the Sea Otter (FSO) has made the strategic decision to close its operations and transfer its agenda, services, and assets to a leading national conservation organization, by the end of August. The combination of our two organizations will ensure the efficient and effective use of resources to accomplish our shared goal of full recovery of the sea otter and its habitat. Meet Louie - a true friend of the sea otter! Louie’s friends call her the “Otter Girl” because she otters have been her favorite animal since she was born. She loves them because they are cute and need our help!!
Louie says people should know that sea otters are endangered. She asks people to stay 50 feet away from sea otters and recycle so trash doesn’t end up in the ocean. Read the full interview with Louie on our website at www.seaotters.org!

Keep Calm and Read On! 🦦📖 FSO is pleased to share a new report from Upwelling, “Roadmap: Recovery of the Southern Sea Otter.” Upwelling presents an unbiased, third party analysis and suite of recommendations related to sea otter recovery. Findings show a strong overall consensus that the population has not recovered sufficiently to be considered for delisting, particularly due to emerging threats, lack of range expansion, and the availability of new scientific information.
