Please join us in this prayer for the entire Gulf Coast community this week.
Heavenly Father,
You are the same God who the wind and the waves obeyed when you spoke to them. You are the same Lord who stood a storm-tossed boat and brought a great calm to frightened hearts. Nothing about you has changed. You are the same God, and we know that You are still with us now.
As Isaias draws near to our shores, we come to you. We ask for your protection over our homes, our neighbors, our churches, and every family along this coast. We especially ask that you watch over those who are most vulnerable: the elderly, the sick, the single parent, the one who has nowhere safe to go. We ask that you keep safe those who will serve in the storm's path: our first responders, our linemen, our nurses and doctors, and all who run toward danger to help others.
Lord, we would pray that you would turn the storm, weaken its winds, and spare our community. But if it does come, we pray that once again you would be our shelter. Let your presence be felt in every room where someone is afraid. Quiet the anxious heart, and remind us that you are not asleep during the storms of this life.
Give us wisdom to prepare well and to act with care. Inspire us to be generous with our neighbors, quick to check on one another, and willing to share what we have.
Whatever this storm brings, let us be constantly aware that we are held by you. Be our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Be the one who commands "Peace, be still."
We ask this in the name of Jesus, the Lord over wind and wave, Amen.
