Today we commemorate the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. We honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, a day that forever changed the course of history. May we never forget their courage and heroism.

As we close out the month of May and reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day, members of VFW Post 5376 proudly continued a cherished tradition by visiting, cleaning, and decorating the grave of our Post's namesake, PVT Renis Barrett.

A native of Calhoun, PVT Barrett made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His courage, service, and devotion to duty remain an enduring example for all who wear the uniform and all who enjoy the freedoms secured by generations of American veterans.

We are honored to preserve his memory and pay tribute to his legacy. May we never forget the sacrifices made by PVT Barrett and all those who gave their lives in defense of our country.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Sean has faithfully served our Post in several leadership roles, earning special recognition during his tenure as Post Chaplain and currently serving as our Senior Vice Commander. His dedication, leadership, and commitment to veterans have made a lasting impact on our organization.

More than that, Sean exemplifies the spirit of service—not only through his devotion to our Post, but also through his unwavering commitment to our community. His willingness to step forward, serve others, and lead by example reflects the very best of what our organization stands for.

Thank you, Sean, for your continued service, leadership, and dedication.

NASRO is honored to recognize Master Patrol Officer Sean Hudson of the Dalton Police Department (Georgia) as the Exceptional Service Award winner for Region 1. Region 1 includes Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Master Patrol Officer Sean Hudson has served in the Dalton Police Department’s SRO unit for over seven years and leads the annual Law Cadet Academy Summer Camp in partnership with the American Legion. The camp introduces high school students from Dalton, Whitfield, and Murray County schools to careers in law enforcement, public safety, and the military.

Hudson spends months organizing the program, which saw record participation in 2025 through partnerships with multiple local agencies. The camp has earned statewide recognition and serves as a model for other American Legion programs, while also inspiring several participants to pursue careers in law enforcement and the military.
