Become a member of our Fire Department Family!

As our community continues to grow, so does the need to increase our Gaines Fire Department roster. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Paid-on-Call firefighter and Part-Time firefighter. Applications for each of the positions can be obtained at the Gaines Township Office (8555 Kalamazoo Avenue SE).
Minimum Part-Time Firefighter requirements :
*** Firefighter I & II and Haz-Mat Operations certification.
*** Michigan EMT License.
*** Must possess, or able obtain by time of hire, a valid State of Michigan driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.

The storm front that moved through Kent County yesterday afternoon resulted in nine storm-related incidents for Gaines FD personnel within a one-hour time frame. Multiple incidents served as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by power lines tangled in downed tree limbs.
Please use extreme caution while cleaning up storm damage, and contact your local power company or call 911 if downed power lines are present.

This week, Paid-on-Call Firefighter Zander Bobeldyke successfully completed Gaines Fire Department’s Black Helmet testing. This evaluation confirms that new firefighters are proficient in department-specific firefighting skills, including—but not limited to—SCBA donning, hose deployment, forcible entry, ground ladder operations, and pump operations.
Congratulations to Firefighter Bobeldyke on this accomplishment.
