This is a huge milestone for our independent documentary, and I’m honored to have the film’s first audience be right here in Los Angeles.

The upper two sections of our lighthouse have been built, covered with aviary wire and cocooned. These two views show it raised to its full height. For reference, the light fixtures are 35 ft above the floor! If you look closely at the top of the lighthouse roof, you can see the flag in the lowered position.

If you have visited the float site in the last several months, you have probably seen this fellow back by the break area. It is a 3D printed test piece for the proposed UMe Credit Union mini-float in the Celebrate Burbank parade. The parade itself was postponed until 2027. The character was planned to stand about 8 feet tall with a wingspan of about 4 feet. This partial character is about 5-1/2 feet tall, without his legs. The blue and orange sections are made with a plastic that can withstand prolonged exposure to direct, hot sunshine without softening. His outer shell is only about one millimeter thick, so when the head fell off of a table, his cheek got cracked. We wanted to explore 3D printing large characters because the technique can hold fine details, tight tolerances and is repeatable. We can also make the outer shell and internal grid supports as thick as we need.

Wanted: White Acorn Caps by the BTORA Deco Team!

We are looking for these specific white acorn caps to add a special decorative touch to our 2027 float. If you have any and are able to donate them, please drop them off at the float site for the deco team. We are working on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10a-2p. We appreciate your help with this. Thank you!"
