Finally a moment to speak of gratitude after soaking it all in, and reflecting on the 2nd International African Diaspora Dance Traditions Conference in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

I am grateful to the elders, the cultural preservers, the presenters and participants, our guests, the Silvestre Associação Cultural, UFBA, Fernando and the entire UFBA equipe. I'm thankful to Maxine Montilus and humbly in appreciation to Rosangela Silvestre and Igor for this year's conference. Grateful for new connections and possibilities and new friends in the making!! 🙏🏿

Each gathering brings so much joy, hope and inspiration to my life. You are all seen, heard and so deeply appreciated. From every song sung, floor swept, light placed, wisdom shared and movement experienced, we are stronger!

Oh the places you'll go!

When I was a graduating dance senior at FSU, I never imagined the places, spaces, people, rooms, opportunities, or experiences that dance would offer me. ❤️ I have lawn so much from my service as a National Dance Project (NDP) advisor. I'm honored to be at the table, incredible thankful to the AMAZING NEFA team and all of the incredible advisors.

Seeing the work of many artists gives me so much hope in knowing- We WILL be ok, and the people, the art, the stories and community together will make the difference and changes we want to see in the word.

The arts saved us during the pandemic and they will continue to do so for centuries. 🫶🏿 That's not a question, but a declaration!! ✌🏿

What started as a seed planted after dancing for years in New York City and having the courage to put my own voice forward. Moving Spirits, Inc. celebrates 15 years of honoring who we are, our lineages, and strength.

As the High Priestess of Black Classical Music, Nina Simone, shared, "You can't help it. An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times." That is the work. Moving Spirits' works, reflect the times as we live now, and retells true, forgotten and misinformed histories of the times of our ancestors.
