🐆🐅🦒🦊🐦 RAWR! How many animals and birds can you identify at the Trail Blazers After School Safari? This month’s theme is “Ecology Everywhere” and After School Campers are learning about the wildlife from around the world. Stay tuned to see what other animals campers are learning about.

WE’RE HIRING for Group Leaders at our After School, which runs at P.S.118, P.S.130, P.S.241, P.S.316, P.S.399, and B.E.456 Brooklyn! As a Group Leader, you will lead elementary school children through environmental science activities and play-based learning such as crafts, songs, games, and outdoor time, including in the winter. You may be placed with a single group of students, or float between multiple groups. Our program is rooted in kindness, support, play, learning, and nature — if you share these values, apply to join our team at https://trailblazers.applytojob.com/apply.

What Group Leaders Do: Group Leaders support After School campers’ learning and growth by:
-Leading hands-on workshops and activities
-Actively participating in songs, games, and activities
-Supporting campers’ goal-setting and reflections, and coaching

Staff Requirements: We are looking for:
-18+ years old with a minimum of 1 year of experience, preferably with elementary-age youth
-Monday - Friday availability
-Willingness to work and play outdoors, in all weather
-High levels of enthusiasm, kindness, patience, and flexibility.

Trail Blazers is here for your childcare needs with nature-based programs throughout the school year. Your camper is invited to come outside and play with us in Brooklyn as we connect to nature in our city and learn about our world. Our Break Camps are for children in Grades PreK-5 and registration is already open, with some sessions nearly full!

Your family is invited to spend an afternoon connecting with camp friends, drinking hot cocoa, and giving back to Prospect Park Alliance, a Trail Blazers partner, by raking the fallen leaves! This Volunteer Day is open to all families, please note that minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

🎼Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold. After School Campers are building and deepening relationships, and sharing friendship bracelets to celebrate and remember these friendships! Children need opportunities to connect with each other in-person and in real life: peer-bonds and creating a space where children feel they belong are essential to the social emotional learning that supports mental health, combats loneliness, and equips children to thrive. At our after school and camp programs, we intentionally create these moments of connection and belonging. From sitting around the campfire, to sharing friendship bracelets, to singing songs together, to team-building games and challenges - Trail Blazers campers connect deeply and, in some cases, for a lifetime! REINTRODUCING, Sage Aidekman, our new Director of Overnight Camp Programs!

Since joining Trail Blazers in 2022, Sage has been integral to the growth and success of Day Camp. Under her leadership the quality and consistency of programming have improved, camper and staff retention have increased, and most importantly she has built a program culture deeply rooted in Trail Blazers's mission and values.

Prior to joining TBC, Sage was Program Director at Harlem Grown and held leadership roles across a variety of youth development, summer camp, and early childhood education including residential camp. She has a Master of Science of Education in Community Based Education from Bank Street College of Education. She is also a highly competitive player of French Toast and other camp games!

We're very excited for Sage to continue delivering camp magic at our Overnight Camp Programs. Join us in congratulating her!

Trail Blazers After School is back, and just as silly as ever!
Creating spaces where children can be silly, embrace joy, and experience fun is an essential element of positive youth development. Play is more than creating smiles, it is a tool for fostering social-emotional and academic growth - helping children to thrive through life. This is why we build unstructured free-play and games into all of our programs here at Trail Blazers and train staff to engage campers through fun. We can’t think of a better way to kick off this After School season and introduce children to Trail Blazers and to each other than with a silly and fun art project that celebrates all the things that make us unique.
