There is a special kind of pain that comes with giving an animal their freedom ride from the shelter and never getting to see the intended life that was supposed to come next. When we pulled Odysseus from ACCT, we weren’t just taking him away from the shelter. We were taking him toward safety, toward comfort, toward the first chapter of a life where he would be loved simply because he existed. We imagined the soft bed, the full belly, the furever family, the toys, and the moments that would finally teach him that the world could be kind.

But sometimes, despite everything, they leave us before they get there. That hurts in a way that’s difficult to put into words. Not just because we lost them, but because we carry the grief of the tomorrows they never got to have. All the love that was waiting for them. All the happiness they deserved. Odysseus never got the ending we wanted for him. But for a brief moment, he knew that someone stopped, someone cared, and someone fought for him. I hope that mattered. I hope he knew he wasn’t alone.

Thank you to his foster mama, Megan, and to all of you who donated towards his care. Diagnostics showed that he likely had kidney cancer and his kidneys had shut down, something that his medical team thinks he’d been living on the streets with for so, so long.

Our bill was $3975.00 at Penn after a $1200 bill at . In his memory, please help us pay off the diagnostics we had performed in hopes that we could take him home. Thank you. We’re so sorry.

Sweet Odysseus is in the ICU at Penn receiving supportive care and diagnostics. I am headed there in a few hours to speak with the doctors in person about his condition and prognosis, and to see if there is anything we can do for him. In the meantime, his wonderful medical team is running some bloodwork so we have the full clinical picture before we make any big decisions. Please pray for him and keep him in your hearts. Sometimes we meet animals who are too far along in their journey and there’s nothing we can do but give them a soft place to land and a chance, and to feel love for the first and last time.

We really need help to pay for Odysseus’s care that we’ve done so far. If you’re able, please consider a donation on $5 Friday. We love you. Thank you 💔

Odysseus update ❤️‍🩹 First and foremost, we want to thank everybody who donated to Odysseus‘s care and rescue, and to those who left him love in the comments and showed support for him getting his freedom ride out of the shelter.

It took a moment for us to give you an update because sweet boy actually gave us a little bit of a scare. As you can clearly see in his shelter video from Monday’s post and his photos, he is a frail, sick little guy who has been fighting to live on the streets for so many years. It took a big toll on his body and he’s been back-and-forth to the vet a few times. This morning he’s on his way back to the vet because he worsened acutely overnight, and he’s being hospitalized. We will keep you updated on how he’s doing, and we could really use your help in donating to his care because it has become a bigger medical case than we had planned for. It’s always a risk we take when we rescue, but it is a non-negotiable that every single animal in our care gets the best of the best, and we need your help👇 🙏

THANK YOU. LET’S DO THIS FOR ODYSSEUS!
Here are some photos of Odysseus enjoying his new life of freedom, finally in a foster home with the most loving foster mama who has been watching him like a hawk and taking extremely good care of our little guy. We will keep you posted on what we learn.

Thank you all so much for your love and support. We truly could not do this without you and if you are able to donate even a dollar to his care, we would be so very grateful.

$5 Friday for herd mani/pedi’s! 💅 🩷 Next week, our hoof trimmer is coming out and we could really use your help. At $100 per trim with a herd of 22 cows, our total is $2200. Hoof trimming isn’t cosmetic — it’s essential medical care.

Just like overgrown nails can become painful for humans and dogs and cats, other species like cows, pigs, goats, and other farmed animals can suffer from severe pain, infections, joint strain, difficulty walking, and long-term mobility issues when their hooves aren’t properly maintained. Regular hoof care helps prevent injuries, keeps our herd comfortable, and allows them to move, play, and live safely.

With so many rescued animals depending on us, these routine care costs add up quickly. Your support helps us provide the basic care every animal deserves — relief from pain, healthy movement, and a better quality of life. Every donation directly helps keep our herd healthy and happy 🫶

THANK YOU!!
