On June 15, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill incorporating the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), making it the first American youth organization to receive a federal charter. This landmark recognition gave the BSA special legal status and highlighted its national importance and commitment to youth development.

The BSA was granted a Title 36 congressional charter, a distinction reserved for select patriotic and national organizations. Title 36 of the U.S. Code recognizes groups that have made significant contributions to American society, particularly in service, education, or community development. A federal charter does not provide government funding or control but serves as a mark of prestige and national significance.

Other notable organizations that have received Title 36 charters include the American National Red Cross (1905), The American Legion (1919), the Girl Scouts of the United States of America (1950), Boys & Girls Clubs of America (1956), Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (1958), and Little League Baseball, Inc. (1964). These organizations, like the BSA, have had enduring impact on American society and continue to be recognized for their service and dedication to the community.

Troop 1 Scouts BSA, Bridgeton, NJ attend many services today along with VFW POST 1795. We started at "All Wars" Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Bridgeton where, Leo Kline IV, was able to have his grand reveal of his Eagle Scout Service Project, that him and the troop volunteered many hours to Beautify and protect the park. Next stop was at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery and ended our day with a beautifuly planned service with First Presbyterian Church of Bridgeton at Old Broad Street Church and Cemetery. Our own Scoutmaster of Troop One G, Brianna Carroll-Stevens, gave a beautiful Colonial performance along with her father in period clothing. We also enjoyed hearing our local Revolutionary History of Bridgeton and the Cemetery by one of our own Eagle Scouts, Joey Pessolano, who presented a well done speech. It was a great day to be had in the community. May we continue to remember the sacrifices that were made. Thank you to all who attended to make today one not to forget. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™βœ¨οΈ

Today members of Troop 1 Scouts BSA, Bridgeton, NJ were caught out in the wild with members of Bridgeton HS Interact Club and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office K9 unit for this month's Cohanzick ZooEd event Tails & Trails held at the Bridgeton City Dog Park. Participants got to learn how to make a snufflemat, walk one or many of the BPAZ Trails to help raise money for a local shelter and learn services available for their furry friends in South Jersey.

A couple members of our troop also created vision boards for their upcoming service projects at BPAZ. Lucas is looking forward to adding an agility course to the Bridgeton Dog Park to help expand enrichment exercise for our canine friends. While Leo is starting his service project April 8th 12pm-2pm at the Bridgeton Veterans Memorial Park with an environmental clean-up and restoration of monuments and flower beds. Shout out to member Daniel who was on board today explaining how the proceeds from the Camp Cards Benefit the troop by helping send our scouts to summer camp.

Fun was had by all especially our canine friends who took the time to run around the dog park on this very windy but sunny day. We'd like to thank Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and their K-9 Unit for their awesome presentation and B-PAZ for inviting us out to be a part of their ZooEd event. Our troop members always enjoy volunteering their time to help alongside Bridgeton HS Interact Club. A special Thank You to Mr. Medica for giving our very own Scoutmaster and Interact Club Advisor Ms. Brianna the ability to help enrich the community with these wonderful ZooEd events that bring us all together. Each and every one of you makes this city a special place.
