Bridgeport activist Joseph “Joe Grits” Thompson found guilty of threatening police officers

A jury in Bridgeport Superior Court found Thompson guilty of charges stemming from threats made against Bridgeport Police officers following social media posts made in 2025.

The case was connected to posts made after the officer-involved shooting of Dyshan Best, which was later ruled justified by Connecticut’s Inspector General.

Thompson is scheduled to be sentenced on July 27, 2026.

Mayor Joseph P. Ganim will be giving the 2026 State of the City Address on Wednesday, May 27 at 3 PM at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater.

The annual address will cover updates, achievements, and plans for the future of Bridgeport. Residents, business owners, and community members are invited to attend or tune into the livestream on the city’s page.
