Happy (early) Birthday to the one and only Mick Galloway! 🎉
We are incredibly grateful for all that Mick has done for Transylvania County.

Most people receive gifts on their birthday, but Mick is the kind of person who spends his time giving to others. In the past three months, he secured nearly $70,000 in assistance for more than a dozen families. He has guided numerous home repair cases, including helping an elderly neighbor, who is battling cancer, remediate their moldy basement.

Mick's compassion, and tireless advocacy have made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many of our neighbors. He is truly a blessing to every person he meets.

We are looking for a few volunteers to help us wrap branded labels on water bottles that will be distributed throughout the community. It's a simple task, but it helps us reach more neighbors impacted by Helene and connect them with the recovery resources they may still need.

As a thank you, volunteers will receive a beautiful digital radio donated by Information Technology Disaster Resource Center. You'll be a little more prepared and connected when the next disaster comes our way.

It's an excellent space for those already offering mental health support services to connect with those who are curious, learning, or exploring what faithful engagement might look like in their context.

The lunch workshop is especially valuable for churches and faith-based organizations that:

The new Disaster Mitigation Program reduces heightened wildfire risk in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene by providing wildfire risk reduction treatments at no cost to eligible private and public landowners.

Risk reduction services available include hazard reduction prescribed burning to reduce dangerous and excessive fuel loading, home ignition zone treatments to create defensible space around homes, and restoration of fuel breaks and roads for reopening access routes to improve wildfire response capabilities. A big thank you to the Swannanoa Grassroots Alliance, Warren Wilson College, and Buncombe/regional partners for hosting an outstanding preparedness event!

We explored the data, trends, and impacts of landslides, flooding, and wildfires, helping our community better understand the risks we face and how to prepare. We are especially grateful to Land of Sky, Appalachian Landslide Consultants, and Mountain Valleys Resource Conservation & Development for sharing their expertise and providing such informative and engaging presentations.

Preparedness takes community leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to learning. We're grateful to be part of a region that continues to invest in building resilience before the next disaster strikes. 💙🌿
