Mary C. Jenkins Community Center Mary C. Jenkins Community & Cultural Center The Mary C. This will give the citizens of the community a sense of pride and ownership.

Jenkins Community Center Board in partnership with the City Of Brevard and the citizens of the Rosenwald Community and surrounding areas are excited to embark on their greatest project ever, the MCJCC Revitalization project. The MCJCC has been a vital part of the Rosenwald Community for more than 60 years, hosting everything from birthday parties, girl scout and garden club meetings, to 50th anniversary parties and scholarship awards banquets. The community desperately needs to recapture a large part of their history by restoring the MCJ Community Center. The Community and Cultural Center is currently under construction. It is estimated to be completed Mid-July with the Official Grand Opening Celebration in September! With the upcoming completion of this project, the Rosenwald community and its citizens will once again be able to remember their history while embracing the present and preparing for their future. Reservations for the use of the Center are estimated to start in August. Please check back here or at our website (https://marycjenkins.org/) for updated information of the current status of the construction. You can also use the website as a resource to further educate yourself about the history of MCJCC, Rosenwald and local black history. We look forward to the opening of the Center to be able to once again offer the community the use of the facility as a gathering place providing educational, social, and recreational programs and activities. Grab your lunch and join us for PowHER!

Take an hour out of your day to connect, create, and unwind with other women in our community!

Join the PowHER Women’s Networking Collaborative on Thursday, October 15 from 12–1 PM at the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center.

This month, Sunshine Creative Reuse is bringing the creativity! We’ll create our own fall-inspired scrap garlands while enjoying conversation, networking, and a little midday fun.

We will provide light snacks and everything you need to create!

Love a documentary but tired of the endless scrolling to find a new one?

Swap the scroll for a stroll to the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center for a glimpse into the experiences of African American travelers in North Carolina during the Jim Crow era. There you can learn how "The Negro Motorist Green Book" helped folks navigate the statewide network of safe businesses (including restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, and salons) and avoid hostile spaces in the segregated south.

The NC African American Heritage Commission's "Navigating Jim Crow: The Green Book and Oasis Spaces in North Carolina" exhibit is on display at the Mary C. Jenkins Center (221 Mills Ave) now through November 20, and admission is free!

Want an even deeper dive? Come out to the exhibit reception (also free!) on Saturday, October 24, to hear local residents recount their experiences traveling during the Jim Crow era of legal segregation.

Bethel “A” Baptist Church Basketball Team — Champions.

There’s something special about seeing young people from our community standing together like this. Before the gyms, the trophies, the championships and all the years that followed, there was simply a team, a church, a community and a group of young people who had people believing in them.

And look at those uniforms! The shorts, the socks, the sneakers — you already know this picture came from a different era!

But what stands out most isn’t the uniforms.

It’s the community.

Bethel “A” Baptist Church wasn’t just a place to worship. Places like this helped create opportunities for young people to build friendships, learn discipline, compete, grow and see something bigger for themselves.

Years later, we can look back at a photograph like this and realize we weren’t just looking at a basketball team.

We were looking at a generation.

A generation that helped shape the Rosenwald community and Brevard into what it is today.
