Today is Menstrual Hygiene Day, a global awareness campaign observed on May 28th to highlight the importance of menstrual hygiene and fight period stigma worldwide.

The date is deeply symbolic to the menstrual cycle: May is the 5th month of the year (representing the average 5 days of a period), and 28 reflects the average number of days in a menstrual cycle.

Women typically menstruate for about 40 years of their lives. Imagine having to spend four decades, facing every month with worry because you don’t have access to menstrual pads. This is the struggle facing women and girls in Cameroon.

is a nonprofit that fights period poverty in Cameroon by distributing biodegradable menstrual pads and providing vital menstrual health education at numerous schools in our region. Our mission ensures that menstruation does not prevent girls from attending school or achieving their full potential.

In 2025, our PridePads team met with more than 7,500 local students and community members. During each of these visits, every participant received free PridePads. In 2026 we are on track to reach even more students than last year!

We fight hard to break the stigma and taboos surrounding menstruation, we talk frankly about periods to both boys and girls in the classrooms that we visit.

Menstrual health is not just a women's issue—it is about human rights, dignity, and equality. Every person deserves access to safe menstrual care, accurate information, and an environment free from shame.

Please consider donating to today, on .

Just $24 provides an entire year of menstrual supplies for one girl.

Happy International Women’s Day! Today, the streets of Cameroon are a vibrant sea of color as we celebrate in the official 2026 IWD fabric.

The official International Women's Day (IWD) fabric in Cameroon is called the pagne du 8 mars. It is a specially designed wax print, that changes annually to represent themes of women's empowerment.

This cloth is more than just a beautiful pattern—it’s a uniform of unity, identity, and sisterhood. Whether it’s tailored into a stunning kaba ngondo or a sharp modern set, wearing this fabric is a tribute to the trail-blazing women who came before us and a nod to the growth of our nation.

The Pride Pads Africa team in Ngaoundéré has a day of celebrations planned and we cannot wait to see the ceremonial dresses they created with the official fabric for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026.

Designed under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” the fabric, named “Floraison” (Blooming), symbolizes the growth and empowerment of Cameroonian women.

The design underscores women’s vital role as drivers of peace, development, social justice, and national stability in Cameroon.

Wearing this fabric during International Women's Day reflects pride in women’s achievements and commitment to gender equality and their rights in Cameroon.
