d this story recently, "When 8-year old Walter came into my courtroom, he had just been moved to his 7th foster home. Walter's parents suffered from drug addiction and were not able to keep him safe or tend to his basic needs. By the time I met him, he had been with 6 different caseworkers, 2 attorneys, and even (I'm embarrassed to say) 3 different judges who had worked on his case.

Starting this month, we're opening our doors for monthly Open Office Hours on the third Wednesday of the month!

We know this work can feel isolating, and we want to create more opportunities for our CASA community to get together in person. Whether you’re on an active case or taking a break, feel free to stop by the office to connect with staff, share stories with fellow CASA volunteers, ask questions about your case, or just say hello. No appointment necessary!

Meet our August CASA Volunteer of the Month, Tom Richebacher!

Tom has brought compassion and dedication to every case, and has a natural gift for building trust and meeting youth where they are. He became a CASA volunteer because he wanted to give back in a meaningful way, and his presence in the lives of the youth he serves reflects that every day. Tom, thank you for the hope you create and the care you bring to our community!

Research shows that mentored youth are roughly 52% to 55% less likely to skip school compared to their peers.

What if one consistent adult could help a student stay in school? That’s the power of CASA volunteers.

Our Truancy Program pairs youth with trained mentors who:

-Build trust
-Advocate for their needs
-Help them overcome barriers

Because showing up started with someone who shows up for you.

Get involved today. Visit vfcboulder.org/volunteer to get started.
