We are delighted to lead the webinar “Unlocking the Potential and Utility of Outcome Harvesting (OH)” and share reflections from monitoring a multi-year global programme, Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance, involving 11 partners across 19 countries and 250 communities.

During the session, our colleagues Kanmani Venkateswaran and Mia Chung from ISET will share experiences integrating OH into a mixed-methods MERL system, lessons learned from applying OH across partner networks, and practical insights into how OH can further support the program.

ISET is proud to be part of a research collaboration with People’s Courage International to share our latest study: "Hot Cities Make Hard Work Harder: Strengthening Health and Livelihood Resilience for Informal Workers in South and Southeast Asian Cities."

Across our cities, millions of informal workers keep daily life moving. But as extreme heat becomes more frequent and intense, their jobs are becoming not just harder, but more dangerous and putting their health, safety, and livelihoods at risk.

Through this research, we aim to deepen understanding of how heat impacts informal workers, highlight innovative adaptation approaches, and explore actions that can strengthen resilience for those most at risk.

(English below) Trong bối cảnh thiên tai ngày càng phức tạp, cùng với việc Việt Nam chuyển sang mô hình quản lý hành chính hai cấp, chuẩn hóa dữ liệu và tăng cường phối hợp liên cấp đang trở thành yếu tố then chốt để nâng cao hiệu quả công tác phòng, chống thiên tai (PCTT).

As natural hazards become increasingly complex, and as Viet Nam transitions to a two-tier administrative governance model, data standardization and stronger cross-level coordination are becoming critical to improving the effectiveness of disaster risk management (DRR).

ISET has been working with the Division of Water Resources, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Huế City and Cần Thơ City to deliver training sessions on the Inter-level Disaster Risk Management Information System (DRMIS) tool. The tool is designed to support local authorities in systemizing and managing all DRM-related databases and, in particular, to support the development of 5-year DRM Plans 2026-2030 at both the commune/ward level and the provincial levels. Training events have been organized for all communes and wards in Hue and Can Tho cities.

The web-based integrated DRMIS tool helps to:
👉 Digitalizing DRM forms and templates to compile and manage multi-layer DPDR data;

👉 Integrating a simple WebGIS function to support data updates and spatial analysis, helping strengthen evidence-based planning across administrative levels.

This activity is part of the Climate Resilience Measurement for Communities(CRMC) Program, funded by the Z Zurich Foundation and implemented through the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance (ZCRA).

As we work closely with our local partners, we are always looking for ways to create added value through our projects and support more lasting impact.

In the first blog of the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance’s Action to Impact series, our ISET Technical Lead Vũ Cảnh Toàn, shares how the team has leveraged technology and strengthened local capacity and ownership to improve flood resilience, and what this work has achieved in Viet Nam.

As temperatures rise, heat is becoming a growing threat to workers’ health and safety, especially for those in high-exposure jobs and vulnerable communities.

The new report Heat Stress at Work explores how extreme heat affects workers across sectors, and how workplace practices, regulations, and economic pressures can increase risk. It also highlights practical opportunities to strengthen worker protection and better integrate heat risk management into occupational health and safety systems.

With the aim of helping Huế City proactively prepare for and respond more effectively to natural disasters, last week ISET, in coordination with the Water Resources and Climate Change Division of Huế City, organized a training course on skills to prevent and mitigate risks caused by extreme heat, as well as guidance on developing commune-level Disaster Prevention and Control Plans.

The training emphasized a key principle: prevention comes first, along with effective implementation of the “4 On-the-Spot” motto: On-the-spot command, On-the-spot forces, On-the-spot equipment and supplies, and On-the-spot logistics

As Vietnam is entering prolonged heatwave, timely preparedness at the local level will help reduce risks and better protect people’s health and safety during upcoming extreme heat events.

Extreme heat is becoming one of the most urgent climate risks facing cities today, impacting health, livelihoods, and daily life, especially for vulnerable groups.

A new publication, Strengthening resilience to extreme heat: an Adelaide case study, Australia, shares how communities adapt to extreme heat, how repeated heat events place growing strain on local resources, and the long-term health and social impacts that can follow.

Using a systems lens, the case study explores how heat risk connects across housing and urban development, the natural environment, health systems, workplaces and schools, disaster risk management and early warning systems, energy and critical infrastructure, and community awareness and cultural norms.

ISET-International is proud to contribute to this publication, helping advance knowledge-sharing and practical action for system-wide heat resilience.
