Colorado High School Cycling League

Colorado High School Cycling League The Colorado High School Cycling League (Colorado League) is an independent 501(c)3 registered non-profit established in 2009.

We facilitate positive youth development through school-based mountain bike teams. The Colorado League facilitates the development of interscholastic mountain bike cycling teams for grades 9 – 12. The program promotes positive youth development through interscholastic mountain biking for high school students in Colorado, southern Wyoming, northern New Mexico, and recently Spearfish, South Dakota.

We strive to support the participation of teams, coaches, and student-athletes regardless of skill or resources. We provide a comprehensive infrastructure that fosters safe, respectful, friendly competition highlighted by the common goals to:

* Foster healthy habits in youth
* Develop self-confidence
* Cultivate leadership
* Strengthen family bonds
* Create community
* Develop a lifelong appreciation of the outdoors
* Provide opportunities for youth to shine

We strongly believe that prevention reduces the need for intervention. Together we impact the present and shape the future one pedal stroke at a time.

Back in February, the Colorado League hired a new Marketing and Communications director (it’s me!) and he immediately started tinkering with stuff. The first to be tinkered: the Colorado League website is going to get an overhaul very soon!

And with that new website will come a brand new blog. It won’t just be our new MarCom guy (it’s me!) waxing poetic: we want to hear from our student-athletes too!

So to kick it all off the right way, we’re having a contest open to any student-athlete in the Colorado League.

Winning submissions will have their essay published on the Colorado League blog when it launches, and those writers will also receive some awesome Colorado League swag.

What, you ask, should student-athletes write about? We’ll leave the specifics up to the athletes, but we would love to hear about a notable moment from Colorado League races, other riders and/or coaches who have inspired the athletes, a difficult cycling moment they have overcome, stories about how cycling with The League has helped them in other parts of their life…or any other creative ideas they have!

Student-athletes should submit their essay to our super-duper-rad new MarCom guy (it’s me!) Dan Cavallari ([email protected]) by July 31st to be considered.

Essays must be between 500 and 1,500 words to be considered.

Feel free to include photos relevant to the essay!
