It’s one of the most important trends of our time – the unprecedented number of Americans who will become 60 years and older in the next 15 years. Nationally, this group is expected to more than double between 2000 and 2030. This “graying of America” can also be seen here in Boulder County. According to the 2015 Age Well Boulder County strategic plan, older adults represent the fastest growing pop

ulation segment of Boulder County. By 2030, seniors will account for about 25 percent of the county population. While this demographic shift brings with it many opportunities, the growing number of older adults will also strain limited resources that help seniors in need. That’s where the nonprofit, Cultivate and its network of local volunteers, come in. Cultivate volunteers provide a range of services for seniors and adults with disabilities including shopping for and delivering groceries to the homebound, escorting clients to critical medical appointments, helping with home repairs and yard work, and clearing sidewalks of winter snow and ice. This support allows many seniors the independence to “age in place” in their own homes and neighborhoods.

Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA), alongside its partners, is seeking input for their planning process that takes place every four years. Boulder County is experiencing a major change in its population: the proportion of older adult residents is greater and growing faster than ever before. For decades, the BCAAA, in partnership with local aging services organizations, has been collecting and using community feedback to understand what helps people age well and where there are unmet needs in our community.

BCAAA and its partners believe in supporting programs and services to support a Boulder County where all residents can age well. Join BCAAA and its partners for a Community Conversation to discuss what works well for older adults in Boulder County, and what service and resource gaps need to be addressed. Along with geographically and subpopulation-based conversations for older adults, BCAAA invites informal and family caregivers of older adults to participate.

Most conversations do not require registration. More conversations are being scheduled – please check back!
