Announcing Our 2026 Spirit of Ireland Award Recipient: Mary Sugrue 🇮🇪

Irish Network Boston is proud to announce Mary Sugrue, President and CEO of the Irish American Partnership, as the recipient of the 2026 Spirit of Ireland Award. Mary will be honored at the Irish Network Boston Spirit of Ireland Gala on Thursday, December 3, 2026, at the historic Harvard Club of Boston.

Born in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Mary began her career as a primary school teacher in inner-city Dublin before making Boston her home. She joined the Irish American Partnership in 1989 as Executive Secretary and, through decades of dedication and leadership, progressed to become President and CEO in 2016.
During Mary’s time with the organization, the Partnership has raised more than $56 million to support schools, educational programs and young people across the island of Ireland. Her impact extends far beyond her professional role through her steadfast support of Boston’s Irish immigrant, cultural and community organizations.

Mary’s remarkable career reflects the values at the heart of the Spirit of Ireland Award: leadership, service, generosity, perseverance and an enduring commitment to strengthening the relationship between Ireland and the United States.

Join us at the Harvard Club of Boston for an unforgettable evening featuring a cocktail reception, open bar, plated dinner, award presentation and live entertainment alongside more than 200 leaders, professionals and community partners.

Last night, we were honored to partner with Project Children and the Irish Cultural Centre for a special screening of How to Defuse a Bomb: The Project Children Story!

The documentary tells the remarkable story of how one act of kindness grew into a movement that gave more than 23,000 children from Northern Ireland the chance to experience peace, friendship, and hope during some of the darkest years of The Troubles.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, Ambassador Claire Cronin, Aidan McKenna Regional Director of Enterprise Ireland to the Americas, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Co.Council Aidan Campbell, CEO of Monaghan Co.Council Robert Burns, and to our special guest Denis Mulcahy, whose vision and unwavering dedication changed thousands of lives. It was a privilege to hear first-hand reflections on the legacy of Project Children and the lasting impact this extraordinary initiative continues to have today.

Events like these remind us of the power of community, compassion, and the enduring connection between Ireland and the United States!
