Black maternal and infant health inequities are preventable—and policy can help change the picture.

What we’re reading: Evidence-Based Policy Considerations to Support Black Maternal and Infant Health, led by U. Iruka, explores evidence-based policies to improve outcomes for Black mothers, birthing people, babies, families, and communities.

The report highlights four key areas with potential to reduce maternal and infant health disparities:
• Medicaid & CHIP
• Evidence-based home visiting
• SNAP & WIC
• Earned Income Tax Credits

The takeaway? Health equity requires more than healthcare alone. Supporting the health and wellbeing of Black families means addressing the economic, social, and community conditions that shape health equity outcomes from the very beginning.

📚💛 Remembering Dolly Parton
Today, we’re remembering Dolly Parton not only for the music and joy she brought to generations, but for her extraordinary commitment to children and families.

In 1995, Dolly founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library with a simple but powerful vision: every child should have access to books, regardless of their family’s income. What began in her home county has grown into a global program gifting millions of free books to children each month.

At the Brazelton Touchpoints Center, we know that books can do so much more than build early literacy. They create opportunities for connection, conversation, imagination, and learning between children and the adults who love them. Dolly’s family has asked that, instead of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory consider supporting the Imagination Library.
