Congratulations to our President & CEO, Denella Clark, on receiving an Honorary Degree and the Robert M. Coard Leadership Award from Urban College of Boston during its 30th Commencement Ceremony.

Named in honor of the late Robert M. Coard, founder of Urban College of Boston and a pioneering champion for educational opportunity, this award recognizes leadership that expands access, creates pathways to success, and strengthens communities.

We were delighted to celebrate the talented students of Boston Arts Academy at our Inaugural Rising Stars Luncheon, which included scholarship, gift and prize presentations. We were proud to distribute more than $250,000 in scholarships to deserving students across all facets of the arts including fashion, music, design, acting and more. Scholarships and gifts awarded included: two students, one accepted to Berklee College of Music and the other accepted to Boston Conservatory at Berklee, receiving the James Taylor Scholarship; three fashion and design-focused students, including two accepted to Massachusetts College of Art and Design and one accepted to Bunker Hill Community College, receiving the inaugural 2026 David Josef Fashions Creative Vision Scholarship; as well as scholarships from The Fenway Music Company; InsuranceLab and Cora Yamagata; NBT II Foundation; the Pastor Pearline James Scholarship funded by Raynya and Omar Simmons; the Denella J. Clark Endowed Scholarship Fund; and awards to purchase art supplies for post-secondary education through the Ralph Bradley Prizes and Trustee Eleanor Goud. We capped off the afternoon with a dance party and an uplifting performance by Raynya Simmons of Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now. 🎓 🎶

The award recognizes Denella's leadership, service, and commitment to expanding opportunity for others. During the evening, she reflected on leadership, identity, opportunity, and the lasting influence of her mother, Pastor Pearline James, whose own Urban College journey continues to inspire generations.

Congratulations to BAAF CEO and President Denella Clark, who will be honored this evening by the Urban College of Boston at The Boston Foundation for her exceptional leadership.

Denella will be receiving the prestigious Robert M. Coard Leadership Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and service to Boston’s arts and education communities, and will also be granted an honorary degree in Human Services from Urban College at this Saturday's Commencement.

Her mother, Pastor Pearline B. James, was a proud Urban College alumna whose decades of service as childcare provider and Boston community matriarch makes this recognition a full-circle moment rooted in family, legacy, and access to education.
