Boise Firefighters Local 149 and the Burnout Fund would like to extend a sincere thank you to The National Utilities Contractors Association for their generous $2,000 donation to the Burnout Fund.

Support like this allows Local 149 firefighters to continue standing alongside members of our community when they have been displaced from their homes due to a fire, providing direct assistance when it’s needed most. This donation is a powerful example of what can be accomplished when labor organization partners work together for the greater good.

We are grateful for NUCA’s commitment to supporting firefighters and the communities we proudly serve! 🤝🔥

Local 149 extends our sincere congratulations to Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer on his retirement today. After more than 32 years in emergency services — including 5 years of distinguished service with the Boise Fire Department — Chief Niemeyer leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, integrity, and leadership.

Chief Niemeyer entered our department during a period of uncertainty and provided steady, thoughtful leadership. His commitment to fostering a strong and collaborative culture, and his willingness to work closely with union leadership, advanced our shared mission of providing the highest level of service to the community.

His dedication to doing what is right for our members, their families, and the citizens of Boise has had a lasting and positive impact on our department.

Thank you, Chief Niemeyer. You have unquestionably left this organization stronger than you found it. We wish you continued success in your future endeavors and have every confidence that you will continue to serve the fire service with distinction.

🚒✈️ Multi-Agency Response: Plane Crash near Wright & Orchard

On the evening of November 8, around 6:40 PM, Local 149 firefighters responded alongside multiple agencies to a small plane crash near Wright and Orchard Streets.

Two occupants were onboard — one was able to exit the aircraft on their own, while the other was extricated by responding crews. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Boise Firefighters from Local 149, working together with Boise Police Department, Gowen Field Fire Department, Ada County Paramedics, and ARFF units, coordinated to keep the patients safe, contain a small fuel leak, and manage the temporary road closure.

Strong teamwork and quick, professional action by all agencies ensured the best possible outcome.

🔥 Boise L149 Burnout Responds to 2 Structure Fires in October 🔥

Even with colder weather and rain, house fires remain a serious risk throughout the fall and winter months. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries in either incident. 🙏

In one of the fires, a resident was able to save an entire room from smoke and fire damage simply by closing the door as they evacuated. 🚪 This small action can make a huge difference — closed doors can buy you and your property precious minutes in a fire.

As we head into the colder months, remember:
🔥 Use space heaters safely
💡 Check decorative lights for frayed cords
🍗 Never leave ovens or stoves unattended

Enjoy the season and all the holiday cheer — but keep fire safety top of mind to protect your home and loved ones.

🔥 Boise Local 149 Burnout responded to 7 fire calls recently — 3 over the 4th of July weekend alone. Most were caused by burning weeds or fireworks. A small spark can lead to big consequences — please stay fire smart!

🔋 As more devices use lithium batteries, remember to store and charge them safely. Battery fires are on the rise with modern tech.

🙌 No injuries were reported, and as always, our Burnout Fund Volunteers were there to support those affected. Huge thanks to these tireless community heroes! 💪❤️

When we said “we are locking arms” with the rest of the .ff.of.idaho to support our brothers and sisters up north we meant it.

Our members have deployed to staff KCFR stations, providing their community with 48 hours of coverage over the next two days. This will give the firefighters up north time to heal, honor, and mourn their fallen during funeral services.

It is with heavy hearts that ourselves along with the rest of the country are learning of the events that took place in Northern Idaho late this afternoon.

The fire service family is a bond that transcends city and state limits. At this time Boise Firefighters Local 149 is actively locking arms with our brothers and sisters around the state ready to support Coeur d’Alene Fire Local 710 and Kootenai County Fire Local 2856. We ask the community to join us, as we offer our thoughts and prayers to all of our brother and sister firefighters and their families up north.
