Idaho Education Association

Idaho Education Association We are Idaho's public school educators. We support and advocate for all students and educators across the state.

The Idaho Education Association is the professional organization for people who have chosen a career in education. We are a member-driven organization that provides professional support for educators, advocates for public schools and public education, and seeks to help create the best possible learning environment for students and teachers. We recognize that children are our greatest resource, and

that good public schools and highly-trained teachers are the most important factor in their future success. We also believe that public education is the backbone of our democracy and a critical ingredient to strong communities. The IEA is actively involved in education on many fronts—advocating on behalf of teachers and students at the capitol, collaborating with other education stakeholders, working with our local associations on bargaining with their districts, providing essential professional development trainings, and raising money for students in need through our Children’s Fund, just to name a few. We welcome input, feedback and support from all who are interested in making Idaho a great place to teach, learn and live. Feel free to visit our website at idahoea.org, follow us on Twitter , or give us a call at 208-344-1341.

A new chapter begins at IEA. 🍎

This August, we’re celebrating a new era of member leadership as a new IEA president and several new members of the IEA Board of Directors step into their roles.

They join a long tradition of educators from across Idaho who have raised their hands to lead, represent their colleagues and help shape the future of our union and public education in our state.

New leaders. New perspectives. And the same commitment to making sure educator voices are heard.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to all of the members who give their time, experience and voice to lead our union.

🎉 Idaho’s Leaders for Just Schools Cohort One Wraps Up Three-Year Journey

✨ Cassie McBean's Project: Be Bold

Boise Education Association member McBean’s project is a multi-year lift. She helped create an anti-bullying event built around her school’s core values — Be Bold, Be Kind — that was held at the start of the school year.

There were guest speakers, a school-wide cheer led by cheerleaders, team-building games, and banner signings during which students committed to one of the Bold values.

Posters from the anti-bullying day incorporated her school's BOLD values: Be respectful, One community, Leadership, and Dare to achieve.

McBean is tweaking the event to be even more successful in the years ahead, but it has already caught the attention of her principal. Thanks to McBean’s efforts, the principal is now looking to expand positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) schoolwide.

Today is President Layne McInelly's final day in office.

At the IEA Delegate Assembly in April, members honored him with the Shane Anderson Outstanding Member Award. During his acceptance speech, he reflected on his tenure and shared his hopes for the future of the Idaho Education Association. Watch his remarks in the video below.

In his final email to members Tuesday, he wrote, in part:

"Although my time as president is ending, my commitment to public education is not. I will always believe that education changes lives, that educators deserve respect and support, and that strong public schools are the foundation of strong communities. Those convictions do not end with a title change.

Thank you for placing your trust in me. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your president. Most importantly, thank you for everything you do, every single day, for Idaho's students.

It has been the honor of a lifetime."

Thank you, President McInelly, for your leadership and service!
