Idaho Education Association We are Idaho's public school educators. We support and advocate for all students and educators across the state.

The Idaho Education Association is the professional organization for people who have chosen a career in education. We are a member-driven organization that provides professional support for educators, advocates for public schools and public education, and seeks to help create the best possible learning environment for students and teachers. We recognize that children are our greatest resource, and that good public schools and highly-trained teachers are the most important factor in their future success. We also believe that public education is the backbone of our democracy and a critical ingredient to strong communities. The IEA is actively involved in education on many fronts—advocating on behalf of teachers and students at the capitol, collaborating with other education stakeholders, working with our local associations on bargaining with their districts, providing essential professional development trainings, and raising money for students in need through our Children’s Fund, just to name a few. We welcome input, feedback and support from all who are interested in making Idaho a great place to teach, learn and live. LuAnn Cummings was spending $200 a month of her own money to keep snacks in her special ed classroom at Lake City High School. Hungry students, low blood sugar and kids who can’t handle the cafeteria all add up to a hard day for learning.

So this summer she put together a stack of receipts and took her case to local community groups: “I need you to help me feed kids.”

The Coeur d’Alene and Hayden Eagles and the Windermere Foundation answered. Now every special ed teacher in her building can grab water, granola bars and noodles for students, and nobody has to ration. 💙💚

Congratulations to Boise Education Association member Amanda Holland, Idaho's 2027 Teacher of the Year! Holland, second from left, received the honor this morning in front of a school-wide assembly at Washington Elementary in Boise, where she is a second grade teacher — and the crowd of students went wild (sound on!). Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield, far left, was on hand to give the award, and shortly after the cheering subsided CapEd presented Holland with a $10,000 check. 📣 Idaho educators have a voice on the national stage — and there’s strength in numbers.

Idaho is one of six states that make up the Northern Tier, a coalition of smaller-population NEA affiliates working together to make sure the needs of educators in states like ours aren’t overlooked.

From advocating on Capitol Hill to shaping decisions within the NEA, educators from Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota are finding common ground and amplifying each other’s voices.

As IEA President Peggy Hoy puts it: “We raise up our voice by banding together. And when you do, you’re stronger together.”

Six states. One voice. 💪

🎃🐐🌽 Union strong… with a side of pumpkins and goats! 🍂💪❤️

CEA & VEA educators took over Shindig Farms in Nampa for a little well-deserved fall fun! Between the pumpkins 🎃, corn mazes 🌽, goats 🐐, treats 🍬, and plenty of laughs, it was a great evening to celebrate the people who make our schools such special places.
Because sometimes being means advocating together, supporting one another…and sometimes it means getting lost in a corn maze together. 😂🌽

❤️ Great educators. Great colleagues. Great unions. ❤️

📢 Idaho educators: your next superintendent will be decided this November, and on Tuesday you have the chance to hear from the candidates themselves.

The College of Idaho is hosting the 2026 Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debate:

Incumbent Debbie Critchfield and challenger Becky Sundin Mitchell will debate their visions for Idaho's public schools. The debate will be moderated by Kevin Richert (Idaho Education News), with panelists Dr. Matthew McDaniel (College of Idaho's Master of Education program), Melissa Davlin (Idaho Reports/Idaho Public TV), and Ryan Suppe (Idaho Education News).

This is your chance to hear directly from both candidates on the issues that affect our students, our classrooms, and our communities before you vote in November.

🚨 IDAHO EDUCATORS: If your school district participates in the Idaho School Benefit Trust, pay attention to what your district is doing right now.

Districts and charter schools participating in the Trust have until Sept. 10 to decide how they will cover their share of the Trust's $13 million shortfall. Those decisions could directly affect whether outstanding medical claims for educators and their families are paid.

👉 Contact your local association or school district to learn how your district is responding before the Sept. 10 deadline.

Today meant something.

For educators in rural North Idaho, having NEA President Princess Moss here wasn’t just a visit. It was a chance to be seen. To be heard. And to know that the challenges they face — and the work they do every day for their students and communities — matter at the national level.
