We had the honor of managing the waste station at Beverly 400’s Night Circus on May 16 at Kelly’s Classic Cars, and we are so proud of what this community pulled off together!

The evening was full of incredible energy: bites from Henry’s, a cash bar, tarot readings, aerial performances, and a crowd that clearly cares. And the waste? Less than one grocery store bag of actual trash from the entire event. Almost everything was sorted into recycling or compost, including the plastic bags and black plastic serving trays.

This is proof that efficient waste management is easier than most people expect. When systems are set up well and people are willing to sort, the results speak for themselves.

Here’s a parallel worth thinking about: just like composting and recycling save resources, they can also save money. Less trash going to the landfill/incinerator means lower hauling costs. If you’ve ever considered downsizing your trash barrel at home or at your business, this is your sign. Smaller barrel, less waste, lower bill.

Thank you Beverly 400 for including us and for putting on such a magical evening! 🎪✨

These blooms at the Cove Community Center are giving us all the inspiration we need 🌼 Did you know you could get up to $500 back for planting a native pollinator garden of your own? Our Garden Rebate Program rewards residents who go big for pollinators, with native plant and size criteria to help build a safer network for bees, butterflies, and beyond.

And the love for pollinators doesn’t stop there! We collaborated with Beverly Main Streets and local student illustrators to create custom garden signs for the City of Beverly, so you can showcase your support right in your own yard.

Visit our website to check eligibility, order a sign, and apply while funds are still available! https://www.greenbeverly.org/garden

A clean city is a beautiful city, and last weekend, our Green Beverly volunteers proved exactly that.

Together, they collected 37.4 pounds of trash, the equivalent of 1,700 empty plastic water bottles removed from one of Beverly's most ecologically unique stretches of road. Common Lane is beautiful, but it's also a busy, winding corridor that accumulates litter quickly. Keeping it clean is an act of care for both the community and the ecosystem.

Thank you to The The Garden School for lot access, Ward 6 Councilor Matt St Hilaire for joining the crew and picking up trash in his own ward, Danielle Spang for Ward 2 City Councilor for lending the trash pickers, Salem Five Bank for sending volunteers and sponsoring the after party, Cell Signaling Technology, Inc. for bringing a great group, and Beantrustcoffeebar for letting us use his industrial-sized baking scale to make the weigh-in official.

Small crew, big impact. Together we are making a difference, right here at home.

Year four, and the Plant Swap just keeps growing. 🌱 This weekend felt like everything a community event should be: neighbors swapping cuttings and stories, live music filling the air, children learning, and plants finding new homes instead of landfills. This is what sustainability actually looks like – not a trend, but a tradition!

Thank you to Beverly Cove Community Center for the beautiful space, to Cheryl from Plant Magic Gardens, Jordan Stutt, and Lauren and Alastair Cox for organizing with so much care, and to Beantrust for keeping us caffeinated. 💚 Most of all, thank you to everyone who showed up, shared what you had, and left with something new. It was an incredible event, and we were so honored to be apart of it.

Hi Beverly neighbors! 🌿
This Saturday, May 16 at 9 AM, the 4th Annual Beverly Plant Swap is happening at the Cove Community Center — and we’d love to see you there!

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just getting started, this one’s for you. Come swap plants, grab a coffee from Beantrust, chat with gardening and sustainability experts from Green Beverly and Plant Magic Gardens, and enjoy some live music. 🎶☕

A few things to know before you come:
🪴 The first 30 minutes (9–9:30 AM) are drop-off only so we can get plants organized
🏷️ Bring healthy, labeled plants to share — seedlings, divided perennials, houseplants, anything goes!

No plants? No problem. Just come and take some home!

Digging in the garden today? Last night’s rain is actually perfect timing to divide hostas, black-eyed susans, bee balm, yarrow, aster, and more — many plants love a good divide! 🌧️🌱

No donation necessary to participate, but if you’d like to support the cove community, they’re collecting donations for their annual scholarship giveaway: https://givebutter.com/beverly-cove-scholarship 💚

See you Saturday!

Sunday, May 17 | 1–3pm

Your monthly sustainability meetup is back and this one’s a good one! This month, we’re introducing participants to BioBlitz — a fast-paced, community-science event where scientists and volunteers team up to identify as many species (plants, animals, fungi, and more!) as possible in a designated area over a short period of time. 🌿🐛🍄

Bring your curiosity, your questions, or just show up for the FREE coffee and friendly conversation. We’ll be inside or on the back patio, so dress accordingly for the weather!

📍 beantrust coffeebar

Getting here: We’d love it if you could walk or bike over! Spring weather can be unpredictable, so stay safe and consider carpooling if you need to. Every small step counts.

Come as you are, everyone is welcome. See you Sunday! ☕🌎
