April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to come together as a community to ensure every child can grow up safe, loved, and supported. The pinwheel, our national symbol, reminds us of the joyful and healthy childhood that all children deserve.

For us, families are at the center of everything we do—just like the center of a pinwheel. But for a pinwheel to spin, it needs more than its center; it needs all the pieces working together. Children thrive when families have access to programs, resources, policies, and community support. When awareness is raised, knowledge is shared, and meaningful action is taken, we help build stronger families and safer communities.

By working together, we can set the pinwheel in motion, creating a world where every child can flourish, every family can find support, and every child’s potential can shine. The time to act is now—because when families are supported, the whole community thrives, and children have the chance to grow up happy, healthy, and ready to succeed.

Our offices are closed today in observance of Farmworkers Day — California's newly renamed state holiday honoring the generations of farmworkers whose labor, resilience, and advocacy helped shape the civil rights movement. They put food on all of our tables, and today we honor their sacrifice. We'll be back tomorrow. 🌱

🏅 Strong, Smart & Bold at the 2026 Winter Olympics ❄️

As the MilanoCortina2026 Games come to a close, we’re celebrating the women who showed the world what’s possible!

From record-breaking performances to moments of resilience under pressure, women athletes led the way for Team USA—bringing home gold, pushing boundaries, and redefining excellence in winter sports. 💪

We’re especially proud to shout out Alysa Liu, an Oakland native, whose journey to the Olympic stage reflects the power of perseverance, dreaming big and being yourself. Seeing someone from our hometown compete at the highest level sends a powerful message to the girls we serve: you belong here too.

At Girls Inc. of Alameda County, we believe girls are Strong, Smart & Bold—and these athletes showed exactly what that looks like:
✨ Strength in their bodies and minds
✨ Smart strategy, skill, and preparation
✨ Boldness in breaking barriers and making history

This month, we're celebrating two things close to our heart: Social Work Month and Women's History Month.

Over 100 years ago, Jane Addams helped define what it means to show up for your community. As a pioneer of social work, she believed that every person — regardless of background — deserved dignity, support, and a fair chance. She won the Nobel Peace Prize for it. More importantly, she changed countless lives.

That legacy lives on in every social worker who walks through our doors today.

To our amazing social workers at A Better Way and beyond — thank you for carrying this work forward. You are part of a legacy built on the belief that every child, every family, every person deserves a fighting chance.
