Why peace efforts with our Islamist enemies are doomed to fail

Surely, no armed struggle has proven as intractable and seemingly unsolvable as the Middle East conflict. Put simply, this struggle can be seen as one between Muslim invaders and others in the region—either indigenous peoples, such as Jews, or other “invaders,” mostly Westerners. Among Islamists, this intolerance of the “other” is fanatical, driven by Muslim religious doctrine.

News from Gaza: A UN report documents a 123% increase in illegal child marriages and forced marriages in Gaza due to poverty. Unemployment in Gaza is now about 85%. Gaza’s war-torn infrastructure is devastated. Yet reconstruction in the Strip is being withheld by the Board of Peace until Hamas disarms, which it refuses to do, forcing increased hardship on Gaza’s already impoverished people. Surprising to some, no pro-Palestinian celebrities or groups have expressed sympathy, let alone condemned or protested against Hamas’s cruel obstinacy.

Kraft dumps Macklemore from Sheeran tour: Cancel culture or good business?

The decision last week to boot pop rapper Macklemore off the bill as opener for superstar Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour was made primarily by Robert Kraft, owner of Boston’s Gillette stadium where the tour was soon scheduled to appear. While defenders of Macklemore disingenuously claim he was canceled because he shouted “Free Palestine” during his performance, the truth is Macklemore has also ranted libels about Israeli genocide in Gaza, called the Jewish state illegitimate and paraded on stage dressed as a hairy, big-nosed caricature Jew out of the pages of the N**i publication Der Stürmer.

As he announced sanctions on Israelis in Judea and Samaria (the “West Bank”) last week, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband accused Israel of “illegally occupying” Palestinian territory in Judea and Samaria, “ethnically cleansing” Palestinians from the disputed territories and taking steps to prevent a two-state solution.

Self-righteous and indignant as Miliband tried to sound, his claims against Israel rang hollow—simply repeating long-disproven falsehoods.
