Do you know of a company that is upgrading, relocating, downsizing, or refreshing its computer equipment?

Computer Technologies Program (CTP) is currently seeking donations of surplus business technology equipment, including laptops, desktops, monitors, servers, networking equipment, and other business-grade IT hardware. Through resale and upcycling efforts, these donations help fund training, employment preparation, and career development opportunities for people with disabilities.

What may no longer serve one organization can help create opportunity for someone else.

Please share this post to help us reach organizations that may be interested in supporting CTP’s workforce development programs for people with disabilities.

Please note: Due to limited capacity, we are primarily seeking professionally managed business equipment turnover rather than individual consumer donations.

If your company or someone in your network may be interested in partnering with us, we would love to connect. Please share to help us connect with organizations seeking to make a meaningful impact in the community.

Letters of Support: Bonny's Story

Hello,

After months of rehabilitation following an illness, I was referred to the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and encouraged to enroll in the CTP Skill Center. At the time, I didn’t know what to expect—or if I was truly ready to return to the workforce.

From the very beginning, people like Devin O’Keefe and Carrie made a difference. They didn’t just guide me through the program—they listened to my story, understood my struggles, and reminded me that I still had potential. Their encouragement came at a time when I needed it most.

As the weeks went on, I began to find my footing. Through structured lessons in Google Suite and weekly interview and resume practice, I slowly rebuilt not only my skills, but my confidence. I remember how difficult it felt at first to answer even simple interview questions. I felt unsure of myself. But with patience, support, and constant encouragement—especially from Carrie—I began to believe in myself again.

What stood out most was that no one was ever left behind. No matter how frustrated or overwhelmed someone felt, the instructors showed patience, kindness, and a willingness to help in any way they could. That kind of support is something you don’t forget.

Today, I have been back at work for three months—something that once felt out of reach. And yet, I still find myself missing CTP. It wasn’t just a program; it was a place where I felt supported, understood, and capable again. I am deeply grateful to Carrie, Devin, Marc, Mike, and Jose for the impact they’ve had on my life.

Through this experience, I didn’t just gain job skills—I learned empathy, patience, and the importance of lifting others up. Those lessons stay with me every day.

What CTP means to me:
CTP means hope. It means a second chance when you’re not sure you’ll get one. It’s a place where people are seen for who they can become, not where they’ve been. It gave me the strength and confidence to move forward when I felt stuck.

Impact of CTP:
CTP changes lives. It helps people rebuild their confidence, regain independence, and return to the workforce with dignity. It creates a sense of belonging and reminds people that they still have something to offer. That impact doesn’t just stay with the individual—it reaches families, workplaces, and the community as a whole.

But programs like CTP cannot continue this work without support.

At a time when the need is growing, so many individuals are still searching for a path back to stability and independence. CTP provides that path—but only if it has the resources to do so. Funding ensures that more people like me have access to training, guidance, and a real opportunity to rebuild their lives.

I am living proof of what this program can do.

An investment in CTP is an investment in people—people who are ready to work, contribute, and move forward, but just need the opportunity and support to get there.

Thank You for taking the time to read my letter!

Best,

Bonny Lee

Please fill out a short survey on Disability Inclusion and Support in the Workplace. This is a project created by CTP graduate Jennifer Arieta. Even if your knowledge of disability is limited, your response is helpful. It is also an easy way to support a great CTP graduate.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to express my strong support for the Computer Technologies Program (CTP) and its mission to improve employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

My connection to CTP is deeply personal. I began my journey through the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) after a back-related medical issue required me to reduce my work to part-time. At that point, I realized I could no longer continue in my hospitality career and needed guidance to find a new path forward. Through DOR, I was introduced to CTP, which became a turning point for me.

I first participated in a Digital Career Compass assessment class with Devin and Alex, who were incredibly supportive and encouraging. They helped me see that building new skills and starting a different career path was truly possible. After completing my assessment, Devin guided me in selecting the courses that would best support my goals.

I began with Computer Essentials, then continued to Computer Skills Bootcamp, and later completed the Professional Customer Service/Administrative Assistant training. Each step built my confidence and expanded my technical and professional abilities. I also participated in the SJS Job Search program, which further prepared me for entering the workforce.

CTP has been a transformative experience for me. Through the program, I developed skills in Google Workspace applications, data entry, time management, and professional communication. I gained hands-on experience using tools such as Google Sheets, where I learned to apply formulas and complete projects that once felt challenging. In addition, I built confidence through presentations, mock interviews, and learning proper Zoom etiquette.

I am currently serving as an Administrative Assistant intern with CTP, with my internship running through May 2026. In this role, I actively apply what I’ve learned in a real-world setting by researching job opportunities, posting listings, and supporting workforce development efforts for other participants. This experience has strengthened my communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, while also giving me a deeper understanding of how to support others in their job search.

One of the most meaningful aspects of CTP is the support from the instructors and staff. Their dedication to helping participants succeed is evident in everything they do—from teaching technical skills to guiding us through resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation. Because of their support, I now feel more prepared, capable, and motivated to pursue my career goals.

The impact of CTP is real and lasting. It not only provides job training but also empowers individuals to build confidence, independence, and a path toward meaningful employment. Programs like CTP are essential in creating inclusive opportunities and strengthening the workforce.

At a time when programs like CTP face funding challenges, continued support is critical. I strongly encourage investment in CTP so they can continue providing these life-changing services to others.

Because of CTP, I am now confidently pursuing a career as an Administrative Assistant.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Lisa Jaco

Letters of Support: Kate’s Story

To Whom It May Concern,

I am a lucky recipient of training from the Computer Technologies Program (CTP). I’m writing to express my strong support for the CTP program and its mission to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

I contacted CTP in 2022 after I had been left partially paralyzed by an autoimmune attack and had been laid off from my job of 17 years at the age of 60. I was overwhelmed and needed help to figure out what kind of work I could do at my age with diminished capabilities. I had not had to apply for a job in approximately 30 years, so I was also woefully out of touch with the current job application process. The staff and teachers at CTP skillfully and compassionately helped me get through the physical and emotional adjustment by bringing me up to speed with current technology, computer skills, and job application skills. That training gave me the confidence to reenter the workforce.

After I graduated from CTP training, the staff have reached out to check on my progress and invite me to speak to others about my employment journey. I’ve seen how important the program has been to others with disabilities who must find a way to survive in an extremely competitive and confusing job market.

I cannot overstate the critical importance of the CTP program. It is one of the most effective programs I’ve had the chance to witness over my lifetime. I am aware that programs for people with disabilities face increasing funding challenges. I strongly encourage investment in CTP’s work. Now more than ever!

Sincerely,

Almost one year ago, in April 2025, the Fairfield office of the Department of Rehabilitation referred a consumer, Bonny, to the Computer Technologies Program (CTP). Bonny was looking to re-enter the workforce after becoming disabled and took the first step by enrolling in our Computer Skills Bootcamp.

In May 2025, Bonny completed Bootcamp and later graduated from our PRO Customer Service and Administrative Training program. After participating in supported job search services, Bonny accepted a job offer in December 2025 and has been successfully employed ever since.

Stories like this are a reminder of how access to training, encouragement, and opportunity can help people rebuild confidence and move forward in their careers.

Here are her thoughts on the program:

“I’ve honestly been missing my time at CTP. It has been such a meaningful and enriching learning experience for me. You and all the instructors made the entire journey so fulfilling, and I’m truly grateful.

I wish more people who need help knew about what this school offers. Everything I learned gave me the confidence to return to work and re-engage with society.

I also learned how important empathy and patience are when working with others, and I carry those lessons with me every day because of the way you taught us.”

— Bonny, DOR Fairfield Consumer & CTP Graduate

It is not an exaggeration to say that Computer Technologies Program (CTP) changed my life and perhaps even saved my life.

I was born with a hearing impairment and dyslexia. Through lived experience, I learned about the bias people have toward those of us who operate differently and the assumptions about what we are capable of. As a young person in school, I struggled, but I learned to adapt to my disabilities in order to find success. When computers became available, things really improved for me because they aided learning, communication, and writing.

In the mid-1990’s, I experienced a significant loss of vision. My medical recovery took nearly two years, during which time I was not able to work. Over time, I lost my sense of purpose, focus, and hope for the future. I was not sure how I would be able to work again.

Through happenstance, I ended up at the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR). Eventually, my DOR counselor suggested two options for me. To attend a training program to learn how to stock vending machines in government buildings, or to go to CTP and find out what they have to offer. He said, “It is up to you, but I recommend that you go to CTP first and see if that is something you want to try.”
I still remember the day I first went to CTP like it was yesterday. I met with David Landis and Joe Quinn. They gave me a few tests to take and interviewed me. The logic tests were by far the most mentally taxing activities I’ve had done in the prior two years, and they were so exciting and fun to take – I could feel my brain wake up. David and Joe were exceptionally kind and caring. It was clear to me that this was the right place for me.

CTP was difficult for me because I needed to learn new ways to work to accommodate my vision loss. The CTP staff was always there and very supportive, while maintaining high professional standards. After sitting at home for two years, I really needed that guidance and feedback to get on track with workplace expectations.

After I graduated, I realized I was in love with CTP and what it can do for someone seeking help to make progress in their life. I wanted to be like the staff who had helped me and to help others. I was hired into a part-time coordination position, developed into CTP’s instruction and operational staff, and became the Director in 2014.

I could not be prouder of what CTP is today. CTP’s programs and the staff that conducts them are truly something special.

Please join me in supporting CTP.

🌟 Want to make a real difference?

I volunteer with (CTP), a nonprofit that empowers people with disabilities through tech training and job readiness programs. It’s been inspiring, uplifting, and incredibly rewarding to support participants as they prepare to enter the workforce.

CTP is always looking for volunteers—businesses and individuals alike. One simple way to help is through mock interviews, giving participants confidence and practical experience while strengthening your own professional skills.

If you want to get involved or learn more, reach out to Carrie, Director of Employment Services, at [email protected].

Back in 2014, CTP graduate and instructor Michael Curran and another advocate took on the City of Oakland to demand safer sidewalks and accessible curb ramps. At the time, Mike faced real dangers navigating the city in his wheelchair:

“Those of you who worked in person with me probably remember the ridiculous amount of duct tape I had to wrap around parts of my chair. My chair was damaged by tripping on bad curbs, forcing me out of my chair, causing me to fall on the sidewalk or even in the street. I am so happy this journey has come to an end.”

Fast forward to today — a settlement has been reached requiring the City to repair its sidewalks and curb ramps. This settlement will drive a historic 25-year investment in Oakland’s pedestrian rights-of-way, ensuring that sidewalks and crossings are accessible for people with mobility disabilities. Mike’s lawyer called it:

“It is one of the best systemic access settlements that I am aware of … You really helped disabled folks out with this one.” – Guy Wallace, plaintiff’s lawyer

Both plaintiffs are thrilled with the outcome and take pride in having made a difference. Mike’s advocacy is a powerful reminder that speaking up and advocating for change can truly make our communities safer and more inclusive for everyone.

👏 Congratulations, Mike! Your dedication has improved Oakland for everyone.
