OutCenter Interviews: Rev. Jared Cramer! Rev. Jared is the pastor of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Grand Haven and is an insightful ally and advocate. In this episode, he discusses his own journey out of religious fundamentalism, towards an inclusive and welcoming faith. He also differentiates between Christian Nationalism versus Christianity, noting that political power (and not loving one’s neighbor) is often at the center of authoritarian movements that utilize spiritual precepts as propaganda. We discuss the responsibility that religious people have to speak out against the harmful ways doctrine and dogma are used to tear down human rights and dignity.
Rev. Jared fought against religious discrimination in Ottawa County in 2023, and regularly presents at Michigan Department of Civil Rights gatherings.
