The Day of the Seafarer (June 25) recognizes the essential role seafarers play in keeping global trade moving. Every day, more than 50,000 merchant ships carry goods across oceans, connecting economies and communities around the world. With ships registered in over 150 nations and crewed by more than a million seafarers from nearly every nationality, the maritime industry is one of the most truly global workforces.

Behind every shipment is a dedicated seafarer ensuring that food, fuel, medicine, and everyday goods reach their destinations safely and efficiently. Today, we celebrate their resilience, expertise, and the vital contributions they make to international trade and our daily lives.

Today's word is "twenty-foot equivalent unit," a unit of measurement in intermodal shipping. It is defined as "the common unit used to indicate the capacity of a container vessel or terminal. A 40-foot container is equal to two TEUs."
