PIRE is an independent, nonprofit organization focused on merging scientific knowledge and research-based practices to create solutions that improve the health, safety, and well-being of individuals, communities, and nations around the world. Founded in 1974, the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) is an independent, nonprofit organization focused on merging scientific knowledge and research-informed practices to create solutions that improve the health, safety, and well-being of individuals, communities, and nations around the world. For almost 50 years, PIRE scientists, evaluators, and staff have conducted basic and applied health research supported by grant- and contract-funded projects, creating a longstanding reputation for research integrity and the application of science for the public good. The work of PIRE is supported by National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal grants, federal contracts, state and local grants and contracts, and foundation awards. PIRE has served as the prime contractor on multimillion dollar projects with the Department of Defense, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and Veterans Health Administration.

PIRE has initiated a comprehensive, nationwide search for our next Chief Executive Officer as part of a planned leadership transition. We’re seeking a visionary leader to build on our strong foundation of interdisciplinary research and expand the reach of our work to improve public health, safety, and well-being. We also extend our sincere thanks to Dr. William Wieczorek, who is semi-retiring after 10 years of service. The PIRE Board anticipates announcing the new CEO later this year.
