Wetiko. A pattern of mind that convinces a person their self-interest and the wellbeing of everyone around them are separate things.
It spreads quietly. Person to person. Mostly without anyone noticing it's happening.

I didn't go looking for a crazy quilt community.I went looking for a microschool conference.What I found — slowly, stitch by stitch, month by month — was something I didn't have language for at first.

A gathering of people who had each carried their own square of fabric through very different lives, very different traditions, very different callings. Somehow, improbably, they were all being laid down together into something none of us could have constructed alone.
