There's plenty you can do to help lighten the load of youth in foster care and their resource (foster) families. It takes a village to raise a child. Offer your support to youth in care and resource families. You can provide transportation, mentorship, childcare, emotional support, hand-me-downs, meals, and more! According to Keystone Family Alliance, families with consistent support are about 90% more likely to continue fostering children in need beyond the first year. You can be that difference for a child or family!

Promoting is something everyone can do to support youth in foster care! Whether online or in-person, spreading the word about the need for foster homes and ways to support youth in care.

A quick follow or share on Facebook helps us to get the word out to more people and find potential homes for kids. When you share a post from Adoption Connection, PA, you are reaching an audience we never could on our own. Just clicking the like, follow, and share buttons makes a difference. Who knew it was so easy!?!?

Bringing up foster care in everyday conversations can help raise awareness. If you hear the word foster care and immediately think of someone you think would make a great foster parent, take a second to suggest it to them. It might just lead to a home for a child in need!

Donating is a great way to support youth in foster care!

You may be thinking, "I don't have piles of money laying around that I can give." That's okay, most people don't, but most everyone has something they can give that helps. Giving can be creative!

Any little bit helps an agency's mission of finding homes for children in need, and when a lot of people give just a little, it really adds up. You may even be able to raise some funds to donate or find an organization that will match the amount you give.

If you can't give monetarily, you can donate your time and talents to help children in need. Agencies have all kinds of needs from volunteers to run events, yard work and maintenance, donation sorting, marketing and IT work, and more! You may never know how an agency can use your gifts and abilities!

Even if you're far too busy to volunteer, you might have something laying around that could make a huge difference in the life of someone in need! Adoption Connection, PA, accepts clothing of all sizes, infant items, linens, and toiletries for our Community Family Closet that are given to kids in care and other local individuals in need. Our fundraising and recruitment team is always in search of prizes and raffle items. That gift card you're never going to use, that bottle of wine you'll never open, that candle that bugs your allergies, can all benefit children in need through Adoption Connection, PA. You never know until you ask!

Perhaps the most obvious way to support youth in foster care is to open your home to children in need by becoming a foster parent.

Some people think they could never be a foster parent, but it doesn't take an extraordinary person to foster, just an ordinary person who is willing to do something extraordinary!

Everyone has a part to play in supporting youth in foster care! Many people think that if they aren't able to open their homes and become foster parents, there's nothing they can do, but that is far from true! Supporting youth in foster care is like a big puzzle with many different shaped pieces.
