We’re celebrating Pat Van Burkleo’s fourth anniversary as Executive Director of Feeding Louisiana!

Under Pat’s leadership, Feeding Louisiana continues to bring our five regional food banks, partners, and advocates together around one shared mission: strengthening resources, elevating the voices of our food banks, and advocating for better access to nutritious food across our state.

Celebrating three years of keeping the numbers, and our mission, moving in the right direction with Jennifer Harris, Feeding Louisiana’s Accountant! 🧡

Much of Jennifer’s work happens behind the scenes, but its impact reaches across everything we do. Her care, accuracy, and attention to detail help keep Feeding Louisiana strong and support the work we do alongside our five regional food banks.

We are beyond thankful to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation for awarding Feeding Louisiana a $125,000 grant to strengthen Louisiana’s statewide hunger relief network.

The project will develop a community-informed investment plan identifying where and how Blue Cross and other funders can make the greatest impact on food insecurity. The initial phase will focus on food sourcing and infrastructure needs across Louisiana’s charitable food system.

Thank you, Blue Cross, for being a part of the fight against hunger in our state.

No address? No computer? That doesn’t mean SNAP benefits are out of reach.

One important question came up during our SNAP Forum Live: Can someone experiencing homelessness apply for SNAP without a permanent address?
The answer: YES!

SNAP applications aren’t limited to an online form. Neighbors who are unhoused, don’t have reliable internet or access to a computer, or simply need help navigating the process can visit a local LDH office to apply in person. They may even be able to complete their required interview while they’re there, and those who qualify for expedited assistance could receive benefits within as little as seven days!

There are options, and knowing where to start can make all the difference.

September is Hunger Action Month, and EVERY Louisianian has a role to play!

All month long, neighbors across the state are joining our network of five regional food banks to raise awareness about hunger and, more importantly, turn that awareness into action.

Give what you can. Volunteer your time. Speak up for policies that strengthen food access. However you choose to get involved, your action helps our food banks serve neighbors in communities across all 64 parishes.

And mark your calendar for Hunger Action Day on September 29—a day to make some noise, show your support, and stand with the hundreds of thousands of Louisianians facing hunger!

It is with much gratitude we share that Feeding Louisiana has secured an additional $2 million through an amendment to its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The funding will allow Louisiana’s five Food Banks to purchase Louisiana-grown produce and other local food for distribution to neighbors across our state.

Over the past three years, Feeding Louisiana has secured more than $8 million in CDBG funding to support food purchases by its member food banks, strengthening both Louisiana’s charitable food system and the state’s agricultural economy:

Food is more than a meal; it’s part of the foundation for better health!

Feeding Louisiana is proud to receive a two-year, $437,500 Food and Health Business Model grant from Feeding America, supported by CVS Health, to help develop a statewide Food as Medicine framework in Louisiana.

Together with our five regional food banks, health care providers, and community partners, we’ll explore how nutritious food and health care can work more closely together to better support neighbors managing diet-related health challenges.

This work is about building a model designed for Louisiana; one that recognizes food security as an important part of helping our neighbors live healthier lives!

Feeding Louisiana recently had the opportunity to visit the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, one of the five regional food banks working every day to fight hunger across our state!

From supporting local partners to helping connect neighbors with nutritious food, their team plays an essential role in building stronger, healthier communities throughout Central Louisiana. Seeing their work in action was a powerful reminder that ending hunger takes collaboration, commitment, and compassion.

We’re celebrating a well-deserved recognition for Jessica Bostic!

Jessica has been named one of the 2026 Top 20 Under 40 honorees by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, NELA Young Professionals and BayouLife Magazine.

This award recognizes young professionals who are making an impact through their careers and communities, and Jessica continues to do just that through her dedication to strengthening food access and serving communities across Louisiana.

We’re so proud to have Jessica on the Feeding Louisiana team and grateful for the passion, leadership and heart she brings to this work every day.
