Baton Rouge Youth Coalition BRYC helps 8thโ€“12th-graders excel in high school, then earn degrees or credentials of value and secure career-track jobs.

The Baton Rouge Youth Coalition (BRYC) was founded in 2009 when a high school teacher realized that even his brightest, hardest working students lacked the resources they needed to get into and graduate from college. The program began with 12 students meeting after school at the Belfair Teen Center. Today, BRYC works with 230 teens from 24 high schools across five parishes and stays connected with 214 program graduates and alumni who attend or have graduated from postsecondary institutions across the country. Our program graduates have collectively secured more than $16.5 million in scholarships. BRYC achieves its mission through after-school, weekend and summer programming that is designed to support Fellows in three key areas: college, community, and consciousness.

BRYC took the top spot among small companies and placed No. 5 overall out of 75 honorees in the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report rankings. Weโ€™re also honored to be featured on the cover!

The timing makes it even sweeter. Mr. Lucas spent 15 years building the foundation of our culture, and in January heโ€™ll pass the torch to Mr. Josh as CEO. Rising to the top during a season of change says everything about that foundation and the team carrying it forward.

The cover story explores how the regionโ€™s top employers are focusing less on flashy perks and more on what employees truly value. For us, thatโ€™s flexibility built into how we work. As Mr. Josh told Business Report:

โ€œWeโ€™ve moved from reactive flexibility to structural because without intentionality, flexibility becomes chaos. Half-day Fridays and summer four-day workweeks are standard, not exceptions, and yet, in high-intense seasons, everyone shows up however needed.โ€

All the credit goes to our incredible staff, who pour so much into more than 2,000 students and alumni every day. Thank you to Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, GBR Society for Human Resource Management, and Best Companies Group for the honor. But most of all, thank you, team!

Why should someone apply to college? ๐ŸŽ“ Because education opens doors. Because your dreams deserve a chance. Because the life you imagine starts with one brave step forward.

Today we're celebrating Day and every learner taking that step toward their future. Whether it's a two-year or four-year school, applying to college is a milestone worth cheering for. ๐Ÿ’™

So we're asking YOU: Why apply? Drop your reason in the comments and share the encouragement. ๐Ÿ‘‡

A huge thank you to the Cortana Kiwanis of Baton Rouge for having us at their weekly meeting last Thursday! They rolled up their sleeves and helped us package our mentor gifts.

This wonderful group has been supporting us since 2023, starting with their annual Christmas parade, and their generosity hasnโ€™t slowed down since. Weโ€™re so grateful for partners who show up, give back, and pour into our community year after year.

Thank you, Cortana Kiwanis, for everything you do!
