Hello Gardeners!

Please join us for a work day at the Batavia Wildflower Sanctuary from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 31st. Halloween costumes are optional, but please bring drinking water, work gloves, eye protection, clippers, loppers and a w**d digger or broom. We will start out with removing invasive shrubs on the east (wooded) side of the WFS, but will work our way around to the Boardwalk and garden area next to that.

Hello Gardeners!

Thank you to Melissa, Jo, Gaile and Terri for your help with watering and planting recently at the Wildflower Sanctuary, and thank you to Tim for the new brochure box. You can see it on the east (woods) side kiosk.

Yes, we have a couple more work days scheduled before the prairie and woods go to sleep for the winter. Please plan to join us at 9:00 am on October 31 (costumes are optional) and November 13th. I will send out details when they get closer.

One of my favorites at The Batavia Wildflower Sanctuary is showing off right now. If you look along the Riverwalk at the north end of the point, or along the edge of the Boardwalk, you might spy a 2-4 foot tall plant that at first doesn't look like much... and then you note the berries. Orange-Fruited Horse Gentian (Triosteum aurantiacum) is a native plant, and a member of the honeysuckle family. Its tiny flowers attract pollinators. It is a host plant for the caterpillars of the Snowberry Clearwing Spinx moth (Hemaris diffinis )
