Yesterday at the Fox Valley Chapter's first meeting of 2026, Dr. William White was inducted as a new member. His Patriot Ancestor is General John Neville. The very interesting bio for General Neville is listed in the comments. Chapter Registrar Clyde Ruble presented him with his member rosette while Chapter President Martin Callahan, inducted him and presented him with his member certificate.

Discussion at the meeting centered around all the planned and exciting activities and events for this 250th year of the Founding of the United States. Do you have a Patriot ancestor in your family history? You can learn more about our Chapter at sarfoxvalley.org or at the National Society of the Sons of the America website, sar.org

“250 years ago, on Jan. 9, 1776, Thomas Paine’s incendiary pamphlet, Common Sense; Addressed to the Inhabitants of America, “burst from the press with an effect which has rarely been produced by types and paper in any age or country,” in the words of a contemporary. It was a runaway bestseller that changed the course of American history”. Read more at the Museum of the American Revolution in the link below.

🌊⚓ **Did You Know On This Day in History: November 28, 1775** ⚓🌊

The Continental Congress authorized the first American naval expedition, marking the birth of the Continental Navy. Under the command of Commodore **Esek Hopkins**, this fleet of eight vessels set sail to challenge British dominance at sea. Their mission was bold: strike at British supply lines, protect American commerce, and carry the fight beyond the colonies.

Hopkins’ fleet included ships such as the *Alfred*, *Columbus*, and *Cabot*. The *Alfred* became the flagship, famously hoisting the **Grand Union Flag**—a powerful symbol of unity and defiance. This expedition represented more than just ships and sailors; it was the first organized step toward America’s naval tradition, laying the foundation for what would become the United States Navy.

Though the fleet faced challenges, its early raids in the Caribbean disrupted British supply chains and captured valuable stores. The expedition proved that the colonies were not only fighting on land but also asserting themselves on the seas. From this daring beginning, America’s naval spirit was born—one that continues to safeguard freedom.
