This is Derek Petty. I am the grant writer for Rebuild Lamar and also handle our page. I want to say that I'm very grateful for the recent uptick in interest in this organization. This page has garnered an unusual amount of views and likes over the past week. I'm not so much interested in why that is but more interested in where we might go from here.
I would like to take a moment now to address our biggest need and that is the need for volunteers. We have plenty of homes and projects to work on but not nearly enough hands. We are working to schedule our next work day and while we do, please be in prayer on how you can help.
If we ask for help in a workday, you DO NOT have to commit to an entire day. You could help for only a few hours if that’s all you can do. If you have a specific area of “expertise” or experience and would like to do a certain type of work, just let us know and we can try to find a way to fit that need. But if you can manage to do any type of physical labor, we will find a way for you to help. We can even get you into contact with our construction chairman to see if there might be another day or way for you to help.
If you can’t offer any help in construction or repair, come and give your prayers. You can meet with the families we are working with and offer them a kind word and spend time with them. Or maybe you could help to organize lunch for the volunteers on site. Or maybe you can drive to-and-from a job site to help deliver any materials as needed. There is always a way to help and any and all help is needed.
All in all, we just ask for your help. And if you are willing to help please bring a friend. Or bring your whole church! Again, any and all help is needed.
Thank you.
